The Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, organized a workshop entitled “Modern career trends and labor market challenges in the field of geographic information systems,” under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zein El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, under the supervision of Prof. Hanan Salem, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Farid Al-Metwally, Director of the Geographic Information Systems Unit at the Faculty, in cooperation with Azri Company, the world’s leading company in geographic information systems.
Engineer Lamia Ahmed Ghadiri, training director at Azri North Africa, and engineer Elham Ahmed Mohamed, a certified trainer at Azri North Africa, were present. During it, a presentation was made of the nature of geographic information systems, their importance, and their applied fields in the governmental and private sectors, as well as a discussion of career trends in the field of systems. Geographic information, determining the requirements and skills required to apply for various jobs.
The jobs are a GIS Specialist, GIS Data Quality Controller, GIS Map Designer, GIS Analyst, Remote Sensing Specialist, Geo Artificial Intelligence Specialist, Enterprise Geo Database Administrator, Desktop GIS Software Developer, Web GIS software developer.
The workshop stressed the importance of linking educational outcomes with the needs of the labor market in the field of geographic information systems, by updating the graduate’s skills to serve the labor market.
The workshop witnessed an unprecedented large student presence from various colleges and universities, such as the Faculties of Arts, Girls, Education, and Archeology from the universities of Ain Shams, Cairo, Helwan, Banha, Mansoura, Menoufia, Zagazig, Kafr El-Sheikh, and Al-Azhar. The attendees showed great interaction during the workshop.
