Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zein El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Chairman of the Conference, the Vice President opened the conference “Women of the Platform and the New Republic: Strategic Achievements and Gains for a Nation,” which was organized by the Center for Middle East Research and Future Studies, headed by Dr. Hatem Al-Abd, director of the center.
In her speech, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, welcomed a large number of attendees at a prestigious university like Ain Shams University.
She explained that the new republic, during the era of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, is living in an era of developmental leaps in various sectors, including interest in empowering Egyptian women in various fields as one of the most important priorities of the stage, and among these fields, the lofty Egyptian judiciary occupies a prominent position due to what it witnessed during the past of the advancement and empowerment of Egyptian women, and emphasis on their active role in this field.
Her Excellency added that organizing today's event comes within the framework of the university's efforts to raise awareness of the necessity of empowering Egyptian women in all fields in general and in judicial platforms in particular. Enhancing women's participation in the Egyptian judiciary is not just a human rights demand, but rather a necessity to achieve balance and justice in society.
Dr. Hatem Al-Abd, Director of the Center for Middle East Research and Future Studies, and the scientific rapporteur of the conference, said that the vision of the New Republic for Women’s Empowerment 2030 is based on the fact that by 2030, Egyptian women will become a major actor in all fields to achieve sustainable development in a nation that guarantees them all of their rights guaranteed by the Constitution, and provides them with full protection. It is guaranteed - without any discrimination - the economic, social and political opportunities that enable it to advance its capabilities and realize itself, and then carry out its role in elevating the nation’s status, which represents an honest translation, honest reflection and immediate application of this strategy.
The first session dealt with “Enhancing women’s participation in the Egyptian judiciary: challenges and strategies.” The session was chaired by Dr. Hatem Al-Abd, Director of the Middle East Research Center, and Counselor Musaad Al-Fakharani, Chairman of the State Litigation Authority, Counselor Dr. Muhammad Abu Deif, Secretary-General of the Administrative Prosecution Authority, and Dr. Nisreen Al-Baghdadi, member and representative, spoke. On behalf of the National Council for Women, on behalf of Dr. Maya Morsi, President of the Council, in several areas, namely legislative developments and their impact on the representation of women in judicial positions, effective policies and programs to empower women in Egyptian judicial platforms, and the professional and legal challenges facing women in their professional development and promotion in the judiciary.
The second session revolved around “Women Judges and Social Justice: Role and Impact.” The session was chaired by Prof. Heba Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty of Information, and the following spoke in it: Counselor Dr. Hala Gamal El-Din, member of the Technical Office of the Court of Cassation, Judge Radwa Helmy, who is the first female judge to take the podium in the State Council, Dr. Hatem Al-Abd, Director of the Center, and the session revolved around the role of women judges in protecting women’s rights and promoting social justice in Egypt, the notable achievements and future challenges of women on the judicial bench, and building the capabilities of Egyptian female judges in accordance with international experiences and global practices.
