Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, announced the Faculty of Law, headed by Prof. Muhammad Safi, Dean of the Faculty, announced the start of study in the Bachelor of Laws degree program in the English language with the credit hour system for the academic year 2024/2025, after the ministerial decision was issued approving the program’s regulations.
It should be noted that the English Department at the Faculty of Law, at Ain Shams University, enjoys a distinguished academic reputation at the local and regional levels, especially after its program obtained academic program accreditation pursuant to the decision of the Board of Directors of the National Authority for Educational Quality Assurance and Accreditation No. (235) dated April 24, 2024 AD. As of 2007, many competencies have graduated from it and currently occupy prominent positions in various state bodies and institutions and the private sector.
Studying according to the credit hour system is considered one of the latest distinguished educational methods that keep pace with the trend of Egyptian universities in general, and Ain Shams University in particular, towards developing parallel programs based on giving students the opportunity to graduate directly once they fulfill the number of credit hours required by the program regulations without being restricted by the number of years required for study. This is in implementation of the provisions of Article (79) of the Executive Regulations of Law No. (49) of 1972 regarding the organization of universities.
After nearly three years of continuous work, the College of Law was able to prepare a modern regulation for the Bachelor of Laws program in the English language with a credit hour system, and it was approved by the College Council and the University Council, and the Legal Studies Sector Committee at the Egyptian state level, and the Supreme Council of Universities, culminated in a ministerial decision issued by Prof. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The list of the new program allows students to study many of the new courses required by practical legal life, such as digital law, intellectual property law, sports law, antiquities and cultural heritage protection law, consumer protection law, global trade agreements, environmental law, comparative law, and international law of the sea. Oil and gas law, alternative means of dispute settlement, investment legislation, and legal methodology, in addition to updating and developing the content of the basic courses to provide the student with the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable him to compete in local, regional, and global labor markets.
The program regulations require that the student successfully pass (126) credit hours, and graduate in the semester in which he completes the graduation requirements. The program regulations adopted the academic advising system, which is based on providing support and assistance to students in choosing the courses that they can study and enroll in, and guiding them throughout their studies in the faculty.
For students to be accepted into the Bachelor of Laws program in the English language on the credit hour system, the applicant must obtain a high school diploma from the Arab Republic of Egypt or equivalent Arab and foreign certificates in accordance with the rules determined by the Supreme Council of Universities, and eighty percent of the grade in the English language, and studies in the program are conducted in both languages Arabic and English, and the academic year is divided into two semesters in addition to the summer semester, and the faculty will soon announce the mechanism and dates for applying for the program through its official channels.
