With rapid steps, Ain Shams University, headed by Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, advanced in the international rankings to keep pace with the most prestigious international universities, as the Webometrics global ranking of reference citations announced the results of its version for the month of July 2024, and Ain Shams University appeared in the ranking (718) globally with a number of citations (583,611), ahead of the January version. 2024, with an increase of (28588) citations.

The ranking showed that 51 Egyptian universities were included among the best international universities listed in the ranking, and Ain Shams University came in fourth place locally.

The Webometrics Global University ranking is the largest system for evaluating international universities issued in Spain by the Higher Council for Scientific Research. The evaluation aims to improve the presence of institutions of higher education and scientific research on the Internet and encourage the publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles in an open access manner. It is a semi-annual evaluation, which is issued in January and July of each year. The evaluation is based on measuring the performance of universities through their websites within the following criteria (size - Reference to research - general impact).

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen said that the university’s endeavor to top international rankings comes within the university’s strategy in connection with the strategy of the Egyptian state and its endeavor to advance in international rankings and raise the ranking of all Egyptian universities at the global level, after the state succeeded during the past years in introducing new universities into international rankings, through policies supporting the scientific research and increasing its funding, as well as cooperation with researchers from different countries of the world.

His Excellency explained that the various international university ranking systems are governed by many standards that are used when classifying universities around the world, and the university administration is making every effort to enhance these standards, the most prominent of which are the availability of elements of availability and digital transformation, the availability of updated infrastructure and technology, in addition to developing curricula and evaluation methods, the availability of international-level programs and partnerships with international universities, in addition to the international publication of research and contribution to community service, graduates receiving international awards, graduates joining important jobs of an international level, and the labor market’s demand for graduates, which contributes to pushing the university to the top of international rankings.

Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Acting Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, said that the university administration always seeks to raise the quality of joint research and record a large number of citations, and thus enjoy a greater opportunity to publish in high-impact journals, in addition to supporting investment in academic research, linking it to industry, development plans, and community needs, and strengthening partnerships with various sectors, through a stimulating and supportive environment for excellence and innovation in science and technology.

Her Excellency indicated that achieving advanced positions in international rankings and providing international-level study programs attracts international students and provides great support to the educational system.

It is worth noting that Ain Shams University came in third place locally in the QS English ranking for university majors for the year 2025, ranking 592 globally, advancing 133 places from the previous version.

The Dutch Leiden ranking also announced the results of its new edition for the year 2024, which showed Ain Shams University ranked second locally and (528) globally, ahead of the previous ranking in which the university ranked (537) globally.

The US News ranking also announced the results of its new edition for this year 2024, bringing Ain Shams University forward to rank (401) globally, with an advance of 139 places compared to last year.
