The Faculty of Girls participates in a workshop to review the updated general diploma regulations

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, the Faculty of Girls for Arts, Sciences and Education participated in the activities of the workshop held by the Teacher Excellence Initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development in Egypt, entitled "Reviewing the Developed General Diploma Regulations", under the supervision of the Educational Studies Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities, during the period from July 21 to July 24, 2024.

The workshop was attended by Prof. Amira Youssef, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Faiza Al-Husseini, Head of the Department of Curricula and Teaching Methods at the Faculty. The workshop aimed to review the updated version of the developed General Diploma Regulations (second edition) over the course of four days. The first day of the workshop focused on the General Diploma Regulations after the amendment in light of continuous development and feedback, and reviewed the main axes discussions revolved around (alignment with the curricula of the new education system based on skills such as multidisciplinary teaching, interdisciplinary teaching, comprehensive design for learning and information and communication technology, compatibility between the General Diploma program and the Egyptian teachers’ competency standards).

   
   

The second day of the workshop dealt with the alignment between the Bachelor’s/Licentiate program and the General Diploma program, and the study plans for the first and second tracks. Discussions revolved around operational research (how did we start? - where we are now - next steps), the graduation project, presenting international examples of practical education, and how to implement practical education in the Egyptian context. While the third day of the workshop dealt with presenting several models for describing multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary courses at George Mason University, and making a comparison between them and the course descriptions in Egyptian colleges of education, in order to review and update the descriptions of the shortened courses to be included in the second version of the developed regulations. On the fourth and final day of the workshop, the amendments in all sections of the regulations (second version) were clarified in light of the feedback and identifying the differences between the first and second versions of the developed General Diploma regulations.
