The Faculty of Al-Alsun ​​at Ain Shams University organized an introductory day for the credit hour programs, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, in the presence of a group of department heads, faculty staff, and teaching assistants, as well as a number of students and their parents, with the implementation of all intensive precautionary measures.

Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, stressed that these educational programs aim to prepare a cadre of professional translators in the fields of written and oral translation and translation technology, capable of meeting the needs of the labor market at the local, regional and international levels, and preparing specialists to fill various jobs that require specialized, written and simultaneous translation skills, in addition to preparing cadres capable of contributing to the Arabization process in scientific fields such as medicine, engineering, science, mathematics and others.

Prof. Hala Sayed Metwally, General Coordinator of Credit Hours at the Faculty, explained that the difference between the semester system and the credit hour system begins with the certificate of each of them; as the faculty grants a Bachelor of Languages ​​degree in Literature and Language under the semester system, while the faculty grants a Bachelor of Specialized Translation degree to the credit hour student, noting that the difference between the two certificates clarifies the extent of specialization and refinement of the translator to qualify him for a specific specialization.

Prof. Dr. Asst. Fayrouz Fouad facilitated the work of the English Language Department and the supervisor of the English language Credit Hours program at the faculty. She explained the nature of the English translation and interpretation program, and clarified its focus on graduating a translator who specializes in either written translation or simultaneous and written translation, and is able to deal with all types of translation, familiar with the latest trends and technologies, and is in high demand in the labor market, whether at the level of international or local institutions.

She explained that a cooperation protocol was signed with the United Nations Translation Department for the English and French Language Sections within the framework of providing the necessary training in the field of translation, and two distinguished cadres from the faculty have already been appointed in the New York and Geneva offices.

While Prof. Dalia Gamal, Acting Director of the Italian Language Department, spoke about the specialized translation program in the Italian language, explaining that the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports the department with two foreign experts to benefit students not only linguistically but also to work on finding job opportunities for them. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides the department’s library with the latest educational, cultural and translation science books for free, considering that the department is one of the oldest Italian departments in the Middle East and its establishment is linked to the establishment of the faculty 1956-1957. She pointed out that the program focuses on translation courses in various areas of life using technology to keep pace with the developments of the era, explaining that there are two cooperation protocols with the most prestigious Italian universities to benefit the student from study grants abroad, and there is an elite group of professors in the department who obtained their doctorates from abroad who have experience with everything new in the labor market. There are also many job opportunities for graduates, especially in the field of industry, trade and gas, but the student’s skills must be developed through this program, which was specially prepared to graduate a student who is proficient in oral and written translation.

While Prof. Rania Adel, Head of the French Language Department, referred to the French Translation and Interpretation Program, as the French Language Department is the first department established in the faculty and includes a large number of professors who have won international awards such as the Knight's Medal from the French Embassy and international publishing awards, some of whom cooperate in simultaneous translation with international organizations.

Graduates of the program can also complete their postgraduate studies in France at the Higher School of Translators and Interpreters.

It is worth noting that the department cooperates with the Francophone University Agency by holding joint workshops for students and participating in international competitions organized by the agency.

Prof. Yasmine Mahmoud, Acting Head of the Spanish Language Department, spoke about the Specialized Translation Program in Spanish, along with a group of professors in the department, about the importance of the program and the possibility of supporting it with an agreement with the University of Salamanca in Spain to train new Egyptian students in conversation and listening through some graduates of the University of Salamanca via video conference technology. She pointed out that a complaints committee was formed to solve students’ problems via a dedicated email, stressing that it is a distinguished educational program that adopts creativity according to quality standards to meet the needs of the labor market and serve the community, to support Egyptian-Arab cultural and scientific ties with Spain and Latin American countries, by developing translation skills and research capabilities from and into Arabic, to graduate cadres of translators and researchers specialized in everything related to specialized translation fields.

Prof. Hassanein Fahmy, facilitator of the Chinese Language Department, explained that the specialized translation program in the Chinese language aims to provide a distinguished educational program that adopts creativity according to quality standards to meet the needs of the labor market and serve the community, to support the Egyptian-Arab cultural and scientific ties with China, by developing translation skills and research capabilities, to graduate cadres of translators and researchers specialized in everything related to specialized translation fields.

The department has Chinese professors specialized in teaching the Chinese language to foreigners, and the department holds many cultural activities and scientific competitions with the Chinese Cultural Center and the Confucius Institute at the college to provide scholarships within the framework of student exchange, under the supervision of the Chinese Education Office in Cairo, and the Chinese Language Department provides many scholarships for outstanding students, such as the Ministry's scholarship to Peking University to study for a full year.

There are many scholarships provided by the Chinese government to students of the Chinese Language Department to study Chinese language, culture and literature in Chinese universities, which provides students with a great opportunity to live in Chinese society and interact with the native speakers themselves.

Prof. Dina Mohamed Abdo, Head of the Russian Language Department, spoke about the specialized translation program in the Russian language, explaining the importance of studying the Russian language and the job opportunities it provides for graduate students, especially in light of the recent growth of relations between Egypt and Russia and the establishment of many major joint projects and the prosperity of the tourism sector.

She also emphasized the advantages offered by the credit hour program in the department, as it helps prepare a graduate capable of performing the tasks of a specialized translator, and where the student receives academic support and guidance throughout the study, as the department has several future partnerships that enhance the level of graduates and open up unlimited areas for them to be creative in the field of specialization.

She stated that the Russian Language Department is the largest in the Middle East and Africa and supports new departments in Russian universities with young cadres.

Prof. Asst. Dr. Hemaa Mustafa, who is facilitating the work of the German Language Department, began her speech by explaining that the prestigious German Language Department at the Faculty of Languages, at Ain Shams University, is one of the oldest and largest German Language departments in terms of the number of students, faculty staff and teaching assistants in Egypt and the Middle East. It has a group and elite of professors specialized in translation who have extensive experience in the field of simultaneous and written translation and have won several local and international awards and work with international organizations and bodies.

She explained that the new translation program is a distinguished educational program that prepares cadres of specialized translators and researchers in everything related to the field of specialized translation and meets the needs of the labor market and community service according to quality standards.

She also explained the study regulations and system, graduate specifications, general conditions for admission to the program, academic guidance and evaluation system.

She pointed out the university's important requirements for general cultural courses that refine the translator's personality and enhance his skills in professional practice in the labor market, as they include important interdisciplinary studies for the translator in the arts, computers, history, geography, law, human rights, business administration, accounting, communication skills, music and literature appreciation and psychology.

As well as the mandatory college requirements in Arabic and English and the research hall, and the specialized program requirements. Then he discussed the scholarships provided to students from the German side, whether from the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD, which provided more than 100 scholarships to students of the department, or Erasmus Plus, or German universities such as the Free University of Berlin.

Then he talked about the international partnerships in the department to raise the classification of the faculty and the university, as the department offers a joint master's program in specialized translation for the German and Arabic languages ​​in cooperation with the University of Leipzig in Germany, and students of the master's program spend a full semester at the partner university in Germany.

Prof. Wajih Yaqoub, Head of the Arabic Language Department, spoke about the Arabic Language Program, which is a distinguished educational and research program to graduate cadres of specialists and researchers in the Arabic language, its literature, and translation from and into it according to the requirements of the labor market and community service in a manner that keeps pace with the developments of the age.

The program aims to prepare human resources of specialists in the Arabic language, its literature, and Islamic studies who are able to meet the needs of the labor market in various fields (media - teaching - translation - linguistic proofreading and review).

Also, preparing researchers who compare languages ​​of the same family or different families, who are able to add to the linguistic artistic balance with their own cultural creativity, and compare the literature of different languages ​​and prepare cadres who can classify bilingual or multilingual linguistic dictionaries.

He also referred to the creation of the Arabic Language and Translation Program for Non-Arabic Speakers, which aims to prepare a translator who is proficient in translation between his mother tongue and Arabic. The program prepares a graduate who is able to compete in the labor market in his home country, or in Arabic-speaking countries, in the fields of (translation / tourist guidance / economic market / diplomatic work ...). The program allows distance learning when necessary.
