A Stable Family = A Secure Society... A symposium within the activities of Ain Shams University's cultural season

As part of the presidential initiative "A New Beginning for Building the Human," the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Ain Shams University organized a seminar titled "Stable Family = Secure Society." This was held as part of the university's cultural and artistic season, in collaboration with Al-Azhar's Global Center for Electronic Fatwas. The seminar was under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, with administrative supervision by Major General Hossam El-Sherbiny, Assistant Secretary-General for Community Service and Environmental Development.

Prof. Ghada Farouk opened the seminar, emphasizing the importance of optimal investment in building the human being and striving to achieve their psychological and social stability, which enhances their capacity for giving, achievement, and increases productivity rates.

She added that the seminar aims to raise awareness among the university's youth of both genders about the most pressing contemporary societal issues and to emphasize the importance of maintaining the cohesion and stability of the Egyptian family. This is key to building a secure society and strong generations capable of driving development and progress while addressing issues such as domestic violence and crime.

Dr. Mohamed El-Mahdy, Professor of Psychiatry and Psychological Consultant at the Global Center for Electronic Fatwas, presented an analysis of the challenges facing child-rearing and family relationships, pointing out the concerning rise in divorce rates, which negatively impacts family stability. He praised Al-Azhar's efforts in addressing this phenomenon through initiatives aimed at preserving family unity.

He also discussed how families can achieve stability in a constantly changing world, particularly with women entering the workforce and contributing to meeting their families' needs. He emphasized modern parenting methods that involve training and preparing children to participate in decision-making, especially given the increased reliance on modern communication tools. Today, parents are no longer the primary source of information or decision-making, and neither are religious institutions or schools, leading to a significant gap between generations. He stressed the need for effective communication to bridge this gap.

Prof. Osama Al-Hadidy, Director General of the Global Center for Electronic Fatwas, expressed his pride in the fruitful collaboration with Ain Shams University, noting the involvement of several university professors and scholars in strengthening the exchange of knowledge, science, and culture between the two institutions.

He then addressed the key factors in choosing a life partner for both young men and women, emphasizing the importance of selecting the most suitable partner and understanding and accepting each other's flaws and strengths. He highlighted the significance of compatibility between partners, which includes social, financial, cultural, and religious compatibility, as it helps to reduce communication gaps during different life stages and facilitates mutual understanding.

He stressed the importance of good character and mutual forbearance between partners, noting that the principle of equality between men and women is established in the Qur'an with the verse, "And women shall have rights similar to those exercised against them, in a just manner."

Dr. Osama Al-Hadidy also announced that the Global Center for Electronic Fatwas is ready to host a group of Ain Shams University students for a pre-marriage training course. This comprehensive program will cover how to consciously choose a life partner and manage marital issues.

A Q&A session followed, where students' questions were addressed.

At the end of the seminar, Prof. Ghada Farouk honored the seminar’s distinguished guests in recognition of their efforts to raise awareness among university students.
