The Faculty of Education at Ain Shams University organized a comprehensive evacuation drill on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, aimed at enhancing safety and civil protection measures among the faculty staff. The event was held under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Safaa Shehata, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education.
The evacuation drill was conducted under the supervision of Major General Hossam El-Sherbeny, Assistant Secretary-General for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs at the University, and Prof. Alaa El-Din Abdel Halim Farag, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, in coordination with Prof. Rasha Bandok, Head of the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems, and in cooperation with the University’s Civil Defense Team, led by Mr. Adel Mohamed Abdel Latif, Director of Civil Defense, and the Faculty’s Civil Defense Team, with the support of the administrative security team.
All students, faculty members, administrative staff, and employees of the Faculty of Education and its adjacent buildings participated in the drill. The University’s Civil Protection Team ensured that attendees were trained on the types of hazards that may require building evacuation and how to evacuate safely, in addition to taking necessary safety precautions to protect lives. The training also included an explanation of fire extinguisher types and how to use them properly.
The drill began with a practical pre-training on civil defense and protection methods, including dealing with fires and procedures for fast and safe evacuation, in collaboration with the Civil Defense and Security Teams at the Faculty.
The training aimed to enhance participants' abilities to handle emergencies and increase their readiness to respond to unexpected incidents. The evacuation was successfully carried out in the Faculty of Education and its adjacent buildings, with the participation of a large number of students, administrative staff, and faculty staff, and in the presence of the heads of civil defense sectors at the university. The participants were organized and exited the buildings in a coordinated manner, without any rush, which contributed to achieving a safe and quick evacuation.
This live drill exemplified the implementation of the evacuation plan according to the highest safety standards and demonstrated the readiness of faculty members to respond to emergencies. The drill is part of the university’s commitment to enhancing safety and civil protection measures and raising awareness of the importance of adhering to precautionary procedures and necessary training to ensure the safety of all individuals within the campus.
