As part of the Faculty of Medicine's celebration of World Stroke Day at Ain Shams University, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, University President; Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs; and Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Hospital Board, the Faculty’s Community Service and Environmental Development Sector organized an awareness seminar on stroke in collaboration with the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry.
The event was attended by Prof. Hala Suweed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Tarek Ahmed Okasha, Head of the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry.
Prof. Ahmed Ali Ibrahim El-Bassiouni, Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, delivered a lecture covering the symptoms and causes of stroke, risk factors, and prevention methods. He emphasized that time is critical in saving a stroke patient, as 75-80% of cases can be treated successfully. He also discussed how to respond to a stroke patient until medical personnel arrive.
He explained that key prevention measures include avoiding medications without medical advice, following healthy habits, and avoiding smoking and excessive weight gain.
The lecture was met with great engagement from the attendees, and the seminar concluded with an open Q&A session to address questions and inquiries.
