Within the framework of the series of seminars organized by the Education and Students Sector, in cooperation with the Anti-Addiction Fund, a seminar entitled "Social and Legal Dimensions of the Phenomenon of Drug Abuse and Addiction and the Role of the Anti-Addiction and Treatment Fund, headed by the Cabinet, in Addressing It" was held at the Faculty of Law under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and with the generous hosting of Prof. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law.
In his speech, Prof. Mohamed El-Shafei, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law for Education and Student Affairs, welcomed the honorable attendees and stressed the faculty's keenness to educate students about the various problems and challenges they may face in their lives outside the college walls, and not just teaching legal subjects.
His Excellency added that the faculty seeks to raise a new generation aware of the dangers of the era and the conspiracies being hatched against the state, including falling into the abyss of addiction, given the great risks posed by this phenomenon to the family and society.
The symposium discussed the dangers of drug addiction and its consequences on individuals and society, focusing on the role of the Drug Control and Treatment Fund in treatment and social rehabilitation through preventive programs and the treatment hotline number 16023. A short film was also shown about the dangers of addiction to individuals and its symptoms, narrating the life of a drug addict and his attempts to recover until he achieves his goal and returns to his normal life.
Dr. Rasha Rashad, a researcher at the Drug Control and Treatment Fund and the University's Preventive Programs Coordinator, stressed the importance of the family's role as the first line of defense to protect its children from drugs by understanding the nature of the problem, methods of prevention and early detection, in addition to the role of the media in educating society about the dangers of this phenomenon.
Dr. Badr Abdel Aziz Badr, Director General of Legal Affairs at the Drug Control and Treatment Fund, discussed the legal dimensions of the Drug Control and Trafficking Law and the most important features that distinguish this law from its predecessor and the expansion of the scope of criminalization in it from the crimes of being present in a place of abuse, preparing a place for abuse, and mere possession of drugs, as well as the new treatment system in the law.
