Betting, Gambling and the Dangers of the Dark Web... A Seminar at the Faculty of Postgraduate Childhood Studies

The Faculty of Postgraduate Childhood Studies at Ain Shams University, at the Special Needs Center, organized a seminar entitled "Betting, Gambling and the Dangers of the Dark Web", which is one of the most worrying aspects of the Internet, as this dark virtual space hides illegal and immoral activities, which poses a great risk to the safety of our children.

The seminar was held under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Howayda El-Gebali, Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Childhood Studies, and Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun, and organized by Prof. Zakaria El-Dessouki, Head of the Department of Media and Children's Culture, and in the presence of Prof. Yomna Safwat, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun ​​for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs.

The seminar was attended by MP Naglaa Al-Asili, a member of the House of Representatives, Major General Staff Officer Mohamed El-Shahawi, and Mr. Mahmoud Basyouni, the editor-in-chief of Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper.

In her speech, Prof. Howayda El-Gebali, Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Childhood Studies, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of the seminar's topic and its impact on Egyptian society.

         
   
         

Prof. Salwa Rashad expressed her happiness with the fruitful collaboration between the Faculty of Al-Alsun and the Faculty of Postgraduate Childhood Studies and highlighted the need for a series of joint seminars aimed at raising awareness among youth about the surrounding dangers.

MP Naglaa Al-Asili emphasized the importance of the seminar's topic concerning the Egyptian household, pointing out that the dark web has a significant impact on the Egyptian home. She explained its dangers to the Egyptian family and highlighted the need for Egyptian families to be vigilant about the dangers of allowing children to have continuous access to mobile phones. She stressed the importance of not letting children use phones alone, as this could expose them to many risks.
She also mentioned the existence of several programs that protect children from accessing harmful games.

Additionally, she noted that the Communications Committee in the House of Representatives is in the process of discussing laws to protect our children from these dangers.

In his speech, Major General Saeed El-Shahawi talked about the risks and challenges facing the Egyptian state, highlighting among the most dangerous of them are gambling and the dangers of globalization, where some youth are being recruited to be lured into these networks.

He confirmed that the dark web poses risks to the mental health of youthand could lead them to engage in activities against religious principles and values. He also stated that social media is one of the weapons of mass destruction and one of the most dangerous weapons in the modern age.

He provided several pieces of advice to the youth, including the importance of avoiding gambling, which often exposes individuals to legal accountability, as well as the necessity of exercising caution when using the internet. He also emphasized the importance of securing personal phones to protect against hacking and the need for awareness and adherence to traditions and customs.

In his speech, Mr. Mahmoud Basyouni, the editor-in-chief of Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper, highlighted the dangers of the dark web and cited the TV series "El Le3ba" as an example, which shed light on gambling and its risks to the surrounding society.
