Ain Shams University continues its progress in global rankings, securing a leading position among Egyptian and Arab universities under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Acting Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
The Times Higher Education (THE) organization announced the results of the 2024 Arab University Rankings, revealing that Ain Shams University advanced to 16th place, up from 33rd in the 2023 rankings. The announcement and award ceremony were held in Dubai during THE Arab Summit and Awards.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa emphasized that the university’s ranking as 3rd locally and 16th in the Arab world reflects its ongoing efforts to improve education quality, enhance scientific research, and foster international collaboration. He congratulated the university’s faculty members, researchers, and students, highlighting that this achievement is the result of dedicated work and fruitful cooperation. He also stressed the importance of continuing these efforts to improve the university’s performance and strengthen its regional and global standing.
Prof. Ghada Farouk stated that the university's strategy to support scientific research and researchers aims to address economic, social, and environmental challenges faced by Arab nations, particularly Egypt. The strategy seeks to solve these issues through producing practical research, developing new technologies, and fostering innovations.
Dr. Ahmed El-Banna, Director of the International Rankings Department at the university, explained that the Times Higher Education organization has been publishing this Arab-region-specific ranking for three years. It evaluates universities based on the same five pillars as the global rankings: Research: focusing on the quality, volume, and impact of research output, Teaching Environment: assessing the quality of education and learning, Societal Impact: measuring contributions to local and regional communities, Internationalization: including collaboration with global universities, and the proportion of international students and staff, and Industry Application: reflecting cooperation with businesses and industries. This year's evaluation included 238 institutions from 16 Arab countries.
It is noteworthy that Ain Shams University was honored at the award ceremony organized by Times Higher Education, where Dr. Ahmed El-Banna accepted the award on behalf of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen.
