Ain Shams University launches the first Giving Festival to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, witnessed the activities of the first Giving Festival "Ain Shams University Artery" organized by the Education and Students Sector, Ain Shams University Student Union, and the "Students for Egypt" family in cooperation with the " Shoryan Al-Ataa" Association, within the framework of Ain Shams University's pioneering role in supporting humanitarian and societal issues by involving its students and partners in initiatives that reflect the spirit of giving and solidarity.

         
   
         

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, accompanied by Prof. Mohsen El-Alfy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sheryan Al-Ataa Association, inaugurated the festival’s activities in the presence of a group of prominent figures, His Eminence Sheikh Amr Al-Wardani, Secretary of the Fatwa Committee at the Egyptian Dar Al-Iftaa, His Grace Bishop Ermia, General Bishop and Head of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center and Assistant Secretary General of the Egyptian Family House, Prof. Osama Abdel-Hay, Head of the Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Neama Saeed, Representative of the World Health Organization in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Amal Emam, Executive Director of the Red Crescent, and a group of deans and a number of prominent academic and medical figures.

         
   
         

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen welcomed the attendees, appreciating the cooperation between Ain Shams University and the Egypt Shoryan Al-Ataa Association. He also stressed the university's deep commitment to a noble humanitarian cause, which is regular blood donation. He added that blood donation is not just a medical procedure, but rather a humanitarian act in the first place that requires courage and strong will from every individual in society. Every drop of blood given is an opportunity to save a life. It represents hope for patients who need support in times of crisis, especially children who need continuous blood supply.

The President of Ain Shams University pointed out that the university is constantly seeking to develop the medical services provided through its university hospitals.

He added that Ain Shams Specialized Hospital is working on developing the blood bank to achieve self-reliance and ensure patient safety, in addition to supporting blood banks in university hospitals to meet patients' needs in a safe and sustainable manner.

         
   
         

The university president stressed the importance of partnership between educational institutions and civil society, explaining that Ain Shams University cooperates with all ministries and governmental and community bodies, and works to enhance development and progress through sustainable projects.

He praised the participation of students in community activities, and their role as role models in teamwork that achieves the university's vision and mission in serving the community.

He concluded his speech by calling on everyone to actively participate in blood donation campaigns, stressing that solidarity between members of society and its institutions is the way to build a healthier and more united society.

In his speech, Dr. Mohsen Al-Alfy, Professor of Hematology at Ain Shams University and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Shoryan Al-Ataa Association, stressed that blood donation represents a message of hope and life for millions of patients, explaining that such initiatives contribute to establishing a culture of social solidarity and providing hospitals with blood needs, praising the efforts of the education sector and students that were made to make the festival a success, calling for continued support for these humanitarian initiatives and for Ain Shams University to be the first university fully dependent on regular blood donation to meet the needs of its university hospitals.

         
   
         

Prof. Osama Abdel-Hay, Head of the Doctors Syndicate, expressed his pride and appreciation for the student activities and artistic teams at Ain Shams University, praising the great role played by the university in discovering and refining the talents of students who have become famous artists and creators.

During his speech at the "First Giving" Festival, he stressed that the university's students have a bright future that promises more giving and creativity.

He concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of continuing to support student activities, as they are the basis for building an aware and creative generation, capable of facing the challenges of the future and contributing to strengthening Egypt's position on the global stage.

         
   
         

Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud Abu Gad, Blood Safety Program Officer at the World Health Organization Egypt Office, reviewed the beginning of the " Shoryan Al-Ataa Initiative" from within the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, 25 years ago to raise students' awareness of blood donation, as blood transfusion and its derivatives are considered one of the vital therapeutic methods without which basic and advanced health services cannot be provided and are needed by leukemia, Mediterranean anemia, and hemophilia patients.

He explained that safe blood is blood free of viruses, parasites, drugs, alcohol, chemicals, or any external factors that may cause any harm, danger, or diseases to the person to whom the blood is transfused, for all those who need it from children and adults, including cancer patients, bone marrow transplants, anemia, and kidney failure.

         
   
         

The festival included a group of distinctive activities that aimed to encourage participants to donate blood, including a running marathon, individual and group games, in addition to artistic shows by the Ain Shams University Choir and folk arts, art exhibitions and others for scouts.

Finally, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen honored the success partners who contributed to Shoryan Al-Ataa Initiative in appreciation of their efforts and constructive contributions. His Excellency also honored the students with disabilities who won international competitions.
