The Faculty of Mass Communication organizes a workshop entitled "Mobile Journalism"

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and the supervision of Prof. Heba Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, and Prof. Salwa Suleiman, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, the Faculty of Mass Communication at Ain Shams University organized a workshop titled "Mobile Journalism." The workshop was led by Mr. Ahmed El-Roumy, Assistant Editor-in-Chief of Rose Al-Youssef newspaper and a visual and audio content producer at the "Spot" website affiliated with the National Press Authority, in the presence of faculty members and students. The event was organized with the participation of the iClub students from the faculty.

Prof. Heba Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the speaker and praised his professionalism and vast experience in the field of journalism. She emphasized the faculty's commitment to organizing diverse workshops in various fields and hosting distinguished experts to share their knowledge with students, which contributes to enhancing the quality of practical training and providing students with the necessary professional skills and media market experience.

Mr. Ahmed El-Roumy presented the origins of mobile journalism, which emerged as a result of the rise of citizen journalism, explaining that it relies on creating videos that tell a story without focusing on duration or scope. He also discussed the impact of mobile journalism on traditional journalism and the audience, noting that it has provided journalists with greater freedom to cover topics without the need for a photographer. He explained that journalists have become a complete team, equipped with their tools through their mobile phones.

El-Roumi also addressed the drawbacks of cameras and mobile phones. He noted that cameras can be heavy and may cause discomfort in public spaces, often drawing unwanted attention to journalists. As for mobile phones, the drawbacks include poor quality in night photography and difficulty in professional photography from long distances, requiring proximity to the subject. He emphasized the importance of adjusting camera settings to facilitate usage and ensure that important moments are not missed.

During the workshop, El-Roumy explained how to use editing software to professionally edit videos, training students on how to compile audio and visual data, cut scenes, add transitions and effects, and work with texts to produce a final video that competes in quality with videos captured using professional cameras.

He stressed the importance of identifying the core element that drives the video whether it's music, an image, or a specific idea to determine the overall mood of the video, such as whether it is somber or joyful, and its pacing, whether fast or slow.

At the end of the workshop, Prof. Heba Shaheen honored Mr. Ahmed El-Roumy, expressing her appreciation for his generosity in answering students' questions and sharing his expertise with them in an engaging and enjoyable manner.
