The Confucius Institute at Ain Shams University organized the first edition of the Chinese Singing Competition for Egyptian universities, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and the supervision of Prof. Nasser Abdel Aal, Director of the Confucius Institute, and Prof. Huang Luoyang, the Chinese Director of the Institute.
Ain Shams University students won several awards, including the Distinguished First Place Award, as well as the First and Second Place awards. Ten contestants from universities including Ain Shams, Cairo, Suez Canal, Minya, Luxor, and the Higher Institute of Languages and Translation qualified for the final competition.
Juwairiya Hamdy Abdel Ghafar, a second-year student in the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, won the Distinguished First Place Award. First Place awards were won by Hana Mohamed from the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, and Rasha Mohamed Hegazi from the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, University of Minya. Second Place awards went to Mariam Hamid and Mariam Anwar from the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, Martina Emad and Seif Eddin Ayman from the Higher Institute of Languages and Translation. Third Place awards were won by Rowana Mohamed from the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, Malak Reda from the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, Farihan Omar and Tasneem Mohamed from the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, University of Luxor, and Maha Yasser from the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Suez Canal University.
The Encouragement Award was presented to Anas Ismail Ibrahim and Adam Ismail Ibrahim (9 years old) from the beginner level at the institute.
It is worth mentioning that the Confucius Institute at Ain Shams University organizes numerous cultural activities and competitions throughout the year to develop the linguistic skills of the institute’s students, in addition to the monthly Confucius Salon. This is part of the institute’s role in strengthening the cultural ties between Egypt and China.
The judging panel of the competition included Prof. Mona Fouad Hassan, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation at the Canadian University of Egypt, Prof. Somaya El-Damhouji, Professor of Phonetics at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, and Prof. Amal Kamal, Professor of Chinese Literature at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, along with three Chinese faculty staff from the Confucius Institute.
