Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, stressed that the most important thing that distinguishes Ain Shams University is the institutional work during the succession of university administrations over the years. This came during his opening speech for the project to replace and renew electricity transformers, develop the floor of the administrative body, and establish the Confucius Institute at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, in the presence of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Saleh Hashem, former President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Nasser Abdel Aal, Director of the Confucius Institute, Prof. Yasser Mujahid, Director of the Engineering Consulting Center, Eng. Mohamed Abdullah, Director of the Engineering Department, and the faculty’s deans and a group of faculty staff and teaching assistants.

He continued his speech, stressing that the previous administrations of the university made distinguished efforts during the development of the university to place Ain Shams University in its rightful place among international universities.

He continued his speech, pointing out that the Faculty of Al-Alsun is one of the most important faculties of the university and has a long history since its establishment in the era of Muhammad Ali the Great, the founder of the modern Egyptian renaissance, and its establishment by the great scholar Rifa'a al-Tahtawi in 1881, stressing that he will not be able to teach medicine, engineering and modern sciences without translation in the Faculty of Al-Alsun, the oldest faculty of languages and translation in the Middle East.

He also pointed out that establishing a new, decent headquarters for the Confucius Institute at the faculty is one of the important projects that support the educational process, and is a natural development stemming from the first Chinese language department in Egypt and the Middle East, which includes a group and elite of professors specialized in translation and who have extensive experience in the field of Chinese translation, stressing that the new headquarters supports the development of student activities that hone the student’s skills in all academic aspects that are acquired at the university in integration with the various personal skills in social communication and creative thinking skills and others to succeed in entering the labor market.

Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, confirmed that today witnesses the opening of a number of important projects at the Faculty of Al-Alsun within the framework of the university's plan to develop its facilities, as the university supports its faculties to achieve comprehensive development in all fields through developing academic programs, developing infrastructure, developing resources, and preparing academic and administrative cadres.

The university has supported its faculties to achieve comprehensive development in all fields through developing academic programs, developing infrastructure, developing resources, and preparing academic and administrative cadres.

She added that the faculty has taken several measures in this regard, developing its local and international programs and courses and linking them to the needs of the labor market, including establishing eight new programs in written and simultaneous translation and specialized translation at the undergraduate level to enrich the knowledge base between the Arabic language and foreign languages in various fields. The faculty has also established advanced programs in postgraduate studies in written and simultaneous translation and translation technology to qualify translators to use the latest software in translation project management, multimedia translation and localization translation in all its specializations effectively and with quality.

The faculty has concluded many agreements and memoranda of understanding within the framework of the exchange of professors, faculty staff and students with universities in various parts of the world in Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Japan, Korea, China and the United States of America.

Within the framework of the ongoing development and modernization work, we are honored today to open a number of important projects that support the educational process at the faculty and the services associated with it in order to keep pace with the latest local and international standards. The project of replacing and renewing the faculty’s transformers and the electricity room and raising the efficiency of the generator is one of the most important projects that the faculty began preparing for with great support from the university five years ago. The efficiency of three transformers was raised and they were converted from oil transformers to dry transformers and their capacity was raised from one thousand (watts) to one thousand two hundred and fifty (watts) with the assistance of the international company, Gila, which specializes in this field. The transformers serve the educational process and the administrative work associated with it, and they also serve the electronic examination halls that were recently established to serve the faculty and university examinations and international examinations in cooperation with foreign bodies.

She explained that the project of establishing a new headquarters for the Confucius Institute at the faculty is one of the important projects that will be inaugurated today, as Ain Shams University established the Confucius Institute with the aim of enhancing cultural and scientific exchange between Egypt and China, in addition to its important role in spreading Chinese culture, teaching the Chinese language, presenting Chinese research, translation and other fields in cooperation with the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, which is the oldest department in the Middle East and North Africa. The project includes an office for the Egyptian director, an office for the Chinese director, a meeting hall, a reception and a room to host visitors.

The development of the floor of the administrative body at the faculty came as an extension of the project to establish the new headquarters of the Confucius Institute at the faculty, which was established on the same floor. The importance of developing the floor of the administrative body comes from its being the face of the faculty in front of the Chinese institute, experts, foreigners, clients and visitors. This project also comes within the framework of motivating the administrative staff working at the faculty to develop performance and encourage the completion of ongoing mechanization work in light of the progress of the faculty’s programs and its obtaining accreditation from the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Authority. The development included changing the floors and wall paints, replacing and renovating the bathrooms, establishing an office to serve the needs of the administrative staff and changing the doors of their offices.

The ceremony witnessed the screening of a documentary film on the development of the administrative floor before and after its renovation. Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, accompanied Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and the guests of the ceremony on an inspection tour of the offices of the administrative building, the Confucius Institute, electrical power transformers, and electronic examination halls at the faculty.
