Within the framework of the Egyptian state's vision to automate the health system and improve the level of medical services, Ain Shams University Hospitals, in cooperation with Sanofi Pharmaceuticals, launched a new project entitled "Health at Home", which aims to provide 1,000 free remote examinations for patients in six medical specialties: pediatrics, immunology, gastroenterology, chest, rheumatology, and dermatology.
The project comes under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals.
In his speech during the project launch, Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals, stressed the increasing importance of telemedicine technologies in improving the quality and expanding the scope of health services.
He also reviewed the joint projects implemented in cooperation with Ain Shams University Digital Hospital and a number of African countries, including Somalia, Cameroon, Sudan, and Nigeria, and Arab countries, including Yemen, which aim to enhance health care in areas of need.
Prof. Tarek Youssef discussed artificial intelligence and robotic surgeries and their role in telemedicine, stressing their role in enabling doctors to perform precise operations, which opens new horizons for treating patients around the world.
Prof. Tamer Amara, Director of Ain Shams University Digital Hospital, explained that the cooperation aims to benefit from telemedicine in facilitating medical services for patients, by reducing the time and material costs associated with transportation to access health services, in addition to contributing to reducing carbon emissions by reducing reliance on transportation.
He added that coordination has been made between the relevant departments within the university hospitals to ensure the ease of directing patients to benefit from this distinguished service, which enhances the efficiency of providing medical care and achieves patient satisfaction.
The event was attended by Prof. Hala Sweid, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Yasmine Gamal, Director of the Children's Hospital, Prof. Mai El-Deeb, Director of Ain Shams University Hospital in Obour, and a group of department heads and faculty staff at the Faculty of Medicine.
In conclusion, Prof. Tarek Youssef honored Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteni, Professor of Hepatobiliary Surgery and former President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Maged Fouad Zakaria, Professor of Neurosurgery and former Head of the Neurology Department, Prof. Sahar Ezz El-Arab, Professor of Oncology, and Eng. Hoda Dahroug, in appreciation of their pioneering role in supporting digital health in Ain Shams University Hospitals and Egypt.
