The Infection Control Unit at the Faculty of Dentistry holds a workshop to enhance safety practices in dentistry

As part of the Faculty of Dentistry's keenness to enhance infection control standards and ensure a safe environment for workers and patients, the Infection Control Unit organized a workshop for assistant professors and deputies, to emphasize the basics of infection control at the faculty, under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zein El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Karim El-Batouti, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Walaa Hamed, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. The workshop was moderated by Dr. Dina Erfan, Team Consultant.

         
   
         

The workshop aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the basic concepts of infection control in dental environments, with a focus on applying safe practices to protect doctors, patients and the environment by understanding the basic concepts of standard precautions, applying safe practices during medical procedures, and identifying the main elements of occupational safety and prevention after exposure to risks.

During the workshop, an introduction to infection control in dentistry was presented, as well as information on hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), cough etiquette, respiratory hygiene, waste management, sharps safety, safe injection practices, patient care equipment classification, and types of disinfectants. Cleaning, sterilization, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces were also discussed, with some special considerations in dental environments being clarified.

The workshop witnessed great interaction from the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the importance of the topics raised and their role in enhancing the level of safety in the work environment.
