In a new scientific achievement that adds to Ain Shams University’s record of excellence and leadership, Prof. Heba Salah Mohamed Hamed, Professor of Physiology (Fish Physiology) at the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Women for Arts, Science and Education, Ain Shams University, won first place in the " Yousuf Bin Saeed Lootah Young Scientists Award" for 2025 in the field of Circular Economy.
The Association of Arab Universities announced the names of the winners during the opening session of its 57th General Conference, held at the International University of Science and Technology in Kuwait. The session was attended by Prof. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities; Prof. Abdelmajid Benamara, Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils; along with presidents and representatives of over 300 Arab universities and a distinguished group of academics and specialists in higher education and scientific research from across the Arab world.
The "Yousuf Bin Saeed Lootah Young Scientists Award" is the first Arab award specialized in the fields of circular economy, renewable energy, and green chemistry. It aims to support and encourage young scientists to pursue creativity and scientific innovation in sustainable development. A special ceremony will be held in Dubai to officially present the awards to the winners and honor their university presidents, in the presence of senior officials and university leaders, in a scientific celebration that recognizes research efforts and inspires further future achievements.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abideen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Amani Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and the University’s Awards Office extended their sincere congratulations to Dr. Heba Hamed, emphasizing that this scientific achievement reflects the excellence and competence of the university’s young researchers and further strengthens its regional and international standing as a leading scientific institution.
Dr. Heba Salah’s win reflects her outstanding contributions to the development of fish physiology. She has published 37 peer-reviewed international research papers and serves as a scientific reviewer for numerous global publishers in her field.
She has also received several prestigious awards and honors, including the Arab Pioneering Woman Medal (2024) from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Ain Shams University Incentive Award in Advanced Technological Sciences (2021), and the Arab Union for Sustainable Development and Environment Award (2023) from the League of Arab States for her overall scientific contributions to environmental development, in addition to multiple international publication awards from Ain Shams University.
