Efforts to transform into a green university through the Green Creativity Pavilion and the Be Green session
Chairing the session of ASESICO and participating in a session on reducing the carbon footprint
Faculties of Engineering and law present distinguished works, and the students present the climate song to the whole world.
Within the framework of Ain Shams University's interest in transforming to green, it had a prominent presence at the COP27 World Climate Conference held in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The participation of Ain Shams University in the conference was in different forms, including the green creativity pavilion of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Transforming to be a green university
The green creativity pavilion, in which Ain Shams University participates, presents the most prominent achievements of the university and its efforts towards transforming into a green university, through conferences, awareness seminars, workshops and awareness campaigns that were organized in this regard, as the exhibition reflects the steps taken by all sectors and colleges of the university to proceed towards going green.
Ain Shams University Exhibition
The exhibition of Ain Shams University witnessed a wide turnout and great praise from visitors, as it was visited by each of Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Hani Suwailem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, the climate pioneer for the Egyptian presidency of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Special Envoy for Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and Mr. Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai.
Be Green session
The university also participated in the "Be Green" session of Ain Shams University, which was organized as part of the conference, during which the university's sustainable projects to transform into a green university "Shams Be Green" were reviewed, in terms of university research, educational and training efforts, digitization processes and developments in the medical field. International partnerships and competitions that serve environmental applications were also discussed, all in a session held in the Green Zone of the Conference of the States Parties in the Green Creativity Zone of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
ASESICO session
Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini also co-chairing the session of ASESCO for the Protection of Arab and Islamic Heritage, with Dr. Salem bin Mohammed Al-Malik, Director General of ISESCO, the Islamic World Organization for Education, Science and Culture.
Carbon Footprint
Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, also participated in the Sanofi company session on reducing the carbon footprint through D-Carbon virtual medicine. During his speech, he emphasized that reducing the carbon footprint has become a global necessity in light of the repercussions of the negative effects of climate change that humanity is witnessing, pointing out that the University of Ain Shams was a pioneer in this field and made strides towards becoming a green smart university.
His Excellency reviewed the efforts of Ain Shams University during the period of the global Covid-19 pandemic, which the university faced with proactive steps that had the greatest impact in mitigating the effects of the pandemic on the educational and health levels.
The Faculty of Engineering presents a Climate Podcast
During the conference, the Faculty of Engineering presented for the first time a climate podcast under the title Zero Digital Climate Narratives for Urban Resilience in partnership between the Smart and Future Cities Lab, funded by the Science and Technology Fund and Central Saint Martins - University of the Arts London, funded by the British Council and in partnership with the Master of Integrated Urbanism and sustainable design IUSD.
The Faculty of Law organized a day on climate law and governance
The Faculty of Law also participated in organizing the Climate Law and Governance Day for the year 2022 in partnership with the University of Cambridge and the Climate Law and Governance Initiative, where 20 working sessions were held, including four plenary sessions and 16 sessions in parallel, with the participation of more than 100 experts from legal, academic and diplomatic institutions from all over the world. More than 1,500 followers and participants in the most important interactive legal event on the sidelines of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP27.
The Students dedicated a climate song to the world
Ain Shams University had a prominent presence in the conference, where Ain Shams University produced a song entitled "Al-Manakh", which was presented by university students and graduates to the conference. It was distinguished by the multiplicity of musical colors in it, which touches all tastes, as it was sung in a number of languages besides Arabic, and it is from the words of the poet Tarek Ali and composed, arranged and conducted by the musician Ahmed Al-Nasser.
Research Project
A group of Ain Shams University students presented a research project at the COP 27 Climate Conference, entitled "Socio-economic impact of climate change as a determinant of health, in cooperation with the Youth as Researchers (YAR)" initiative of UNESCO and with World Health Organization (WHO), and the research was presented and discussed in the presence of Dr. Naima Al-Kaseer, representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt, and representatives of the UNESCO office in Cairo.
