Ain Shams University Hospitals begins registration steps to work within the comprehensive health insurance system

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, expressed his pride in the performance of the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control as an achievement to be reckoned with for the current Egyptian leadership.

Where it will prepare standards and regulatory steps that will help advance the health system in Egypt.

This came during the visit of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control to Ain Shams University to discuss procedures for registering university hospitals by the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control to work within the comprehensive health insurance system.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini announced the state's support for Ain Shams University hospitals and obtaining a decision from the political leadership to extend their area from the Al-Nour Mosque to the Abbasid Cathedral and from Ramses Street to Lotfi Al-Sayed Street, where the surrounding gardens will be annexed.

Emphasizing that Ain Shams University hospitals (Demerdash) or Ain Shams Medical City deserve all support from all state authorities due to the great role they play.

He added that many development steps have been taken in hospitals, as the infrastructure development has been completed, pointing out that development in the health system continues to keep pace with all that is new.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Ismail, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Accreditation and Health Control, supervised that Ain Shams University hospitals, since their inception, have always been proactive in keeping up with all developments and obtaining quality and accreditation.

During the meeting, he shed light on the future of health care in Egypt as it was laid down in the national strategy, pointing out that the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control was established under the Comprehensive Health Insurance Law and it is an independent body affiliated with the Presidency of the Republic to work with everyone impartially and without discrimination.

He added that the comprehensive health insurance law is a milestone in the history of health in Egypt, because it will provide comprehensive health coverage at the highest level for all Egyptians, which represents a great challenge that will not happen without the participation of all medical sectors.

He also addressed the tasks of the authority, which included setting standards for all health facilities, which reached 13 categories, to be at the global level, pointing out that purely Egyptian standards have been developed, including standards for radiology centers, pharmacies and medical laboratories.

Adding that among other tasks of the authority is the registration and accreditation of all health facilities in the Arab Republic of Egypt in all governorates.

Prof. Dr. Ashraf Ismail explained the difference between registration and accreditation for medical facilities; Registration is the first step upon which to inform the state that these facilities are ready to contract with comprehensive health insurance, and after that the journey of preparation for accreditation begins.

Referring to the registration requirements, which include 5 points, on top of it (licensing), as well as 30 safety standards that must be 100% met.

He added that the authority's tasks are also to monitor to ensure the continued application of the standards that were approved.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Ismail expressed the authority's desire to cooperate with Egyptian universities to launch a diploma on the Egyptian standards that were issued.

The meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Vice Deans, Heads of Departments and Hospital Directors.
