Faculty of Al-Alsun launches its first enlightenment convoy to eradicate illiteracy in Al-Waili district in the presence of the President of the Public Authority for Adult Education

Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University launched its first enlightenment convoy to eradicate illiteracy, in cooperation with the General Authority for Adult Education and Al-Waili neighborhood in Cairo, under the patronage of Prof. Mahmoud Al-Matini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hesham Temraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, supervised by Prof. Dr. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, in the presence of Dr. Ashour Al-Amri, President of the Public Authority for Adult Education, and Dr. Islam Saeed, Director of the Center for Adult Education at Ain Shams University, Prof. Nasser Abdel-Al, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Nahed Rachel, director of the literacy unit at the faculty, with the participation of the fourth year students.

As the convoy roamed the Waili neighborhood to urge citizens to participate in its activities, in cooperation with the General Authority for Adult Education, and the Waili district in Cairo, and a number (60) citizens have already been hosted at the faculty’s headquarters, under strict precautionary measures to face the repercussions of the emerging corona virus (covid19) to take the tests for them with the knowledge of the Public Authority for Adult Education.

Prof. Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, said that the convoy comes within the framework of the completion of the graduation project for students of the fourth year, confirming that the students of Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University, the descendants of the great scholar Rafaa Al-Tahtawi, the owner of the largest enlightenment movement in Egypt's modern history, contribute to the implementation of the country's strategic plan to eliminate illiteracy in the whole country, carrying the flag in the face of the darkness of ignorance, in line with the state's goals to create a comprehensive development renaissance in various fields.

         
   
         

Stressing that if Al-Alsun students have the upper hand in transferring foreign sciences and knowledge in their languages ​​to the Arabic language for use in the renaissance of the Egyptian state, then it is more appropriate for them to present their efforts in participating in the elimination of illiteracy among the Egyptian people.

She referred to the role of Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University, which was one of the first facultys in the university to announce since 2015 that it is free of illiteracy, stressing that literacy is one of the most important presidential mandates besides the axes of development, health and education, pointing out that Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University, has a great history since its establishment by the great scholar Rafaa Al-Tahtawi, in enlightening the Egyptian society, as it was the first faculty to implement a cooperation protocol with the Adult Education Authority through the training courses that it launched in cooperation with the University's Adult Education Center and the General Authority for Adult Education of the Council of Ministers, and they made an effort to harness all their educational and research capabilities in solving the issues of Egyptian society and contributing to its development, and stressed that community work outside the university's walls is an authentic pillar of the enlightenment message entrusted to the universities.

Prof. Dr. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, said that the caravan organized by the faculty aims primarily to serve the faculty's neighborhood, which is Al-Waili neighborhood, in belief in the role that the faculty and its students play in community service. Moreover, this convoy comes within the plan set by the sector to help Fourth year students fulfilling one of the conditions for graduation, which is citizen literacy.

Prof. Dr. Yumna Safwat confirmed that this convoy is the result of fruitful cooperation between the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector and the Waili neighborhood headed by Brigadier Hani Reda and the Public Authority for Adult Education.

The activities of the convoy that took place inside the faculty runways to ensure the precautionary measures witnessed a level test being held by a specialized committee formed by the Public Authority for Adult Education, and the convoy witnessed a high turnout of citizens wishing to open refresher classes, and the activities ended with honoring the citizens participating in the convoy.

Dr. Ashour Al-Omari, President of the Public Authority for Adult Education, made an inspection tour of the examination committees and the procedures followed inside the committees' headquarters, and praised the enlightening role that was presented to the community, as well as the idea of ​​the caravan launched by the faculty and hosting citizens inside the faculty halls to conduct exams to facilitate students and citizens.

Dr. Islam Al-Saeed, Director of the Center for Adult Education at Ain Shams University, expressed his happiness with this convoy, which gives a clear example of the importance of institutional integration in order to eliminate the problem of illiteracy, with the fruitful participation of the students of our ancient university, appealing to the university faculties for more development convoys aimed at providing a community service befitting the pioneering role for our university.
