Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, opened the activities of the scientific symposium held by the Faculty of Medicine and Ain Shams University Hospitals in cooperation with the Egyptian Agency for Cooperation for Development (EAPD), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation (JICA), on the use of Respiratory endoscopy to diagnose moderate lung and respiratory diseases.
This came in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Ashraf Omar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. Samia Abdo, Deputy Executive Director of University Hospitals and Director of Infection Control, Mr. Osaki Akihiro, Deputy Principal Representative of the JICA Office in Egypt, and a group of chest and respiratory doctors in the chest department of the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, including Prof. Yasser Mustafa, Head of Al-Sadr Department and Prof. Ibrahim Youssef, Head of Clinical Pathology Department, and a number of doctors and specialists in some African countries.
In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini emphasized the keenness of Ain Shams University hospitals to keep pace with the latest scientific, research and diagnostic developments in the field of chest and respiratory diseases, especially in light of the global pandemic conditions.
He praised the fruitful cooperation with the Japanese JICA Foundation, pointing to the support and funding provided by the Foundation last November to develop the chest care unit at El Demerdash Hospital, which now includes a bronchoscopy unit, an intensive care unit, a continuous medical education unit, and a simulation laboratory to train doctors in various types of chest endoscopes and train them. On the techniques of intensive care with the latest educational and training methods.
Prof. Dr. El-Metini hope that this webinar will be the beginning of the use of new medical techniques in dealing with the pandemic.

The seminar discussed a number of topics related to lung and respiratory diseases with a focus on methods of combating neglected tropical diseases (NTDS), and the importance of using endoscopes to diagnose a number of unusual parasitic diseases, especially in patients with immunodeficiency, as well as emphasizing the importance of applying prevention practices.
