A memorandum of understanding and cooperation was signed between Ain Shams University and Gustave Eiffel University in France at the Zaafaran Palace at Ain Shams University, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President of Ain Shams University of Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Tariq Burwena, Associate Vice President for Research in charge of International Doctoral Programs for Gustave Eiffel University, Prof. Dr. Diaa Abdel Majid Mohamed Khalil, General Supervisor of Innovation and Creativity at Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Shahira Samir, Director of International Relations and Academic Cooperation at Ain Shams University, Dr. Mazen Irfan Al-Sayed Al-Maghawry, the agreement coordinator and teacher at the Department of Communications and Electronics, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, and from the French Embassy in Cairo, Dr. Reem Abdel-Rahmani, supplement to scientific and university cooperation.
The agreement is the culmination of the scientific cooperation that has existed for more than 15 years between the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University and ESIEE College, Gustave Eiffel University, which resulted in more than 50 research papers published in scientific journals and more than eight doctoral theses.
The agreement aims to deepen this cooperation and expand its scope to include multiple other disciplines in the two universities, such as the exchange of faculty staff and students, and joint supervision of doctoral theses for obtaining joint/double degrees, whereby PhD candidates can conduct part of their research work in France and part of Egypt. It also aims to deepen joint cooperation with industry in Egypt and France.
The joint cooperation also aims to establish international cooperation dealing with research and education, including graduates and undergraduates, as well as the teaching staff, the proposed cooperation is based on cooperation in academic programs on the development of joint research activities, the exchange of faculty members, administrators and researchers, student exchange, joint supervision of doctoral students to obtain joint/double degrees, holding joint lectures and seminars, and exchanging academic information including the results of cooperation in teaching and research.
It is worth noting that Gustave Eiffel University was founded by the merger of the University of Paris-Est-Marne-La-Vallee and the French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development and Networks, and it includes the Faculty of Architecture and three engineering faculties, namely the École des ingénieurs de la Ville de Paris, the National School of Geomathematics, and the French Graduate School, By bringing together a university, research institutions and engineering faculties for the first time in France, it aims in particular to develop national and international cooperation to meet the great societal challenges that arise from fundamental changes in urban environments.
