Ain Shams University goes global... The first Egyptian university to get five stars in QS Stars Ranking

QS World Universities Ranking announced that Ain Shams University received five stars (out of five stars) in the QS Stars Ranking, and that both the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy received a five-star rating, making Ain Shams University the only Egyptian university that was able to obtain this ranking, not only that, but it is the first Egyptian university to be included in the QS Stars ranking since 2015 when it got three stars, and then in 2018 when it got four stars.

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini - President of the University, expressed his sincere congratulations to all the affiliates of Ain Shams University, professors, students, researchers and administrators, for this great achievement, which comes as a continuation of the university's recent series of achievements at the international level.

His Excellency announced this good news during the University Board session today, Monday, 9/27/2021, thanking the Vice Presidents, Deans and Vice Deans of University Faculties for their efforts in cooperating with the University's International Classification Office under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and General Supervisor of the University's International Classification File in preparing the university's file to apply for this evaluation, which shows the university's excellence in various scientific, research, community and service fields.

     
 
     

Because that Ain Shams does not forget the efforts of its children, His Excellency honored all the former leaders of the university, who have contributed a great role since the beginning of the university's appearance in the QS Ranking in 2015 such as: Prof. Dr. Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Essa - Head of the Planning and Budget Committee in the House of Representatives, former President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dr. Abdel Wahab Ezzat - Former University President Prof. Dr. Ahmed Imad El-Din Radi - Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and former Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Abdel Aziz Ali - Former Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research Prof. Dr. Abdel Nasser Sengab - Former Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Dr. Rania Salah El-Din - Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and former Director of the International Evaluation Office, Prof. Dr. Muhammad El-Husseini Al-Toukhi - Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Yasser Suleiman - Former Head of the Compulsory Training Authority, Former Vice Dean of the College of Medicine for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Nazmi Abdel Hamid - Former Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Fathi Al-Sharqawi, the former Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, presented them with university shields and took collective commemorative photos on the occasion of this great achievement. His Excellency also thanked the members of the University’s International Classification Office.

On his part, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and General Supervisor of the University’s International Classification File, expressed his great happiness with this great achievement, which comes as a continuation of the university’s progress in international classifications in recent periods, as he explained that he assumed the task of supervising the international classification file for the university since 2013, the university was not at the time in the position it deserves in many well-known international classifications, which he considered a great challenge, and he took upon himself the secretariat of reaching Ain Shams University to the position it deserves in the classifications locally, regionally and internationally.

This journey began with the university’s entry into the QS assessment, which is one of the most important rating institutions for evaluating the best universities in the world. Ain Shams began its achievements by obtaining three stars in 2015, then four stars in the 2018 evaluation, to culminate in this trip in 2021 by obtaining five stars, as the first Egyptian university to achieve this advanced evaluation, and His Excellency also congratulated the faculties of medicine and pharmacy for inclusion in this evaluation and getting the five stars.

     
 
     

Saud added that this achievement comes within the framework of the university's vision to improve the various aspects of the educational, research and service process at the university, and to implement advanced international strategies that keep pace with global developments, in terms of the quality of education, the use of modern teaching methods, and the production of distinguished cadres of graduates with high capabilities and competencies that keep pace with the requirements of the local and international labor market. And that is through the establishment of new academic programs and courses and the establishment of international degrees in cooperation with many prestigious and internationally distinguished universities.

On his part, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, is proud to be one of the sons of Ain Shams University, expressing his happiness with this new achievement of the university, which confirms that it is taking harmonious and harmonious steps towards globalization and international excellence, stressing that the graduate studies and research sector plays a role Recently, it has been a great deal to improve the university’s position in the various assessments, through the development of new and advanced mechanisms to motivate faculty members and the supporting staff for scientific and research excellence, and to publish their scientific productivity on an international basis, which contributed to the university’s strong emergence on the international scientific publishing sites.

Whereas Prof. Dr. Hisham Tamraz - Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs said that this step enhances Egypt's position as a leading center for education and development in the Arab region, stressing that the university adheres to a specific strategic plan and clear goals that serve the community in all respects, by ensuring the organization of medical convoys And the development of various villages and poor neighborhoods in the Arab Republic of Egypt, not only that, but it also organizes artistic and cultural meetings that will develop the cultural and artistic awareness of its students, participate strongly in the national project to eradicate illiteracy and adult education and obtain the first place at the level of Egyptian universities and the university obtaining the UNESCO Prize in the field of literacy.

Moreover, Prof. Dr. Shahira Samir, Executive Director of the International Relations and Academic Cooperation Sector at the university, said that the QS Stars World Universities Ranking is one of the most important university classifications in the world in terms of importance and impact, and therefore the university’s obtaining this assessment is nothing but an achievement written in letters of gold in the history of Ain Shams University. Emphasizing the keenness of the university administration in recent times to open up to various cultures and global civilizations, by establishing the international relations and academic cooperation sector, which in its various departments has contributed to increasing international partnerships and agreements and facilitating the management of the university’s internationalization file in all educational and research fields and the establishment of various environmental projects that have gained confidence International organizations and global research bodies

         
   
         

Finally, Dr. Ahmed Al-Banna, Director of the International Evaluation Office at the university, confirmed that the results of the QS-Stars evaluation are the best evidence of the university’s commitment to measuring performance indicators and rates. Since the university received three stars in 2015, the university has not stopped at this achievement, despite being the Only Egyptian university that achieved these achievements during that period, but rather analyzed the current situation for it, studied its strengths and worked to improve its weaknesses, until it was able to obtain four stars in 2018 and then five stars this year.

It is worth noting that the QS assessment depends on several important and pivotal criteria: the quality of teaching and the employability reputation of its graduates, academic development, international presence, e-learning, social responsibility, the comprehensiveness and suitability of the university to all surrounding conditions for the success of the educational process, and those criteria that are measured through electronic questionnaires and field visits to verify it, the university has obtained five stars in all of these criteria, in addition to the faculties of medicine and pharmacy getting the same evaluation five stars out of five stars in the same evaluation.
