Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dr. Ashraf Abdel Aziz, Secretary-General of the Arab Union for Sustainable Development and the Environment, and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community and Environmental Affairs, inaugurated the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University headed by Prof. Dr. Samir, Dean of the Faculty, in cooperation with the Arab Union for Sustainable Development and the Environment, the Association of Islamic Universities, the Center for Administrative Development CMD, and Nahr Al-Amal magazine, banned the Arab International Conference: “It is time to switch to a smart environment”, under the slogan “Smart Environment - A Dignified Life”.
The conference is held on the occasion of the Arab Environment Day, which is held on the 14th of October each year, in the Grand Conference Hall of the Faculty of Pharmacy, through attendance and online, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Hala Awadallah, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Reham Refaat, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs and Vice President of the Conference, Dr. Huda Helal, director of the Green Transformation Unit at the college, conference rapporteur, and a number of officials of the Arab Union for Sustainable Development.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, on behalf of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, welcomed the attendees, and stressed the importance and inevitability of the various Arab initiatives issued by Arab leaders on the necessity of transforming the Arab land into a clean environment suitable for living without violations of its resources while preserving and caring for it so that it is qualified to live in it while providing a decent life for all partners in life, whether human, animal or plant.
His Excellency pointed out that sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, given what humanity suffers from severe pollution in the environment and a shortage of its natural resources such as water, air, soil, etc. Scientists, specialists and experts had to come together to help governments preserve and protect the environment.
His Excellency added that the Covid-19 virus is the biggest protest cry from the ecosystem against the neglect of humanity and that caring for the environment has become necessary and not optional. His Excellency pointed out the need for a safe environment for students that stimulates education and creativity, and to provide an opportunity for a large sector to implement interdisciplinary studies.
His Excellency cited Egypt's pioneering experience under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in carrying out urgent major projects, and despite them being large and urgent projects, they considered environmental and sustainability standards, which proves the possibility of observing environmental standards, sustainability and aesthetic standards while conducting urgent development projects.
Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, expressed his fear of the water scarcity crisis and desertification, pointing out that the per capita share has become less than 550 meters, in addition to the problem of desertification, as one and a half million square meters of the delta area have been completely decertified, in addition to the problem of food scarcity. As for desalination, we have reached 800,000 cubic meters, and it is expected that after several years we will reach 6 million square meters per day.
At the level of Ain Shams University, a thousand acres have been allocated to it in the New Valley, with architectural designs for housing and geographic information systems to regulate water use and reduce the use of fertilizers.
Prof. Dr. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, attended Mawlid al-Nabawi ceremony on the sidelines of the celebration of the Arab Environment Day. His Excellency stressed the importance of taking political and social measures to restore ecosystems with a long-term strategic plan.
His Excellency added that the President of the Republic's "Dignified Life" initiative included 51 villages and centers at the level of 20 governorates, and from this standpoint, Ain Shams University launched comprehensive convoys for the governorates, which included many activities, including literacy, craft education, and medical aid, which have reached 9 convoys over the course of the year. 9 months, during which the simple citizen was targeted, and the university treated 9900 cases of various diseases free of charge, and 550 incurable cases were transferred to the Demerdash University Hospital for free treatment, and 105 citizens were donated prosthetic devices. - Anemia - drugs) and 21,000 citizens have been eradicated from illiteracy, in the belief of Ain Shams University in the 17 sustainable development goals set by the United Nations and in order to achieve Egypt’s 2030 vision.
Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, stressed the need to eliminate all forms of violence towards the environment and to transform into a dignified life that includes all humanity and to provide appropriate opportunities for creativity, development and innovation in order to reach smart environmental sustainability for the benefit of present and future generations, which are lofty and clear goals in line with the vision Egyptian 2030, sensing the great importance of these goals in light of the changes taking place in Egypt and the Arab world.
