“African Climate Ambassadors” a pioneering program in Africa

The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research announces an online training grant in English in cooperation with the Volunteer Team Foundation for Humanitarian Action, within the activities of the Million Youth Volunteer Climate Adaptation Initiative “The Training Program for the Qualification of Climate Ambassadors”, which aims to graduate 5,000 climate ambassadors from African university students, sponsored by the Association of African Universities, the British Council and the Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmin Fouad and President of the Association of African Universities, Prof. Dr. Bakri Saeed Othman, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, this was stated by Prof. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Faculty.

She added that registration for the African Climate Ambassadors Qualification Program has been opened as of today, Saturday, February 5, 2022, with the course starting on Saturday, February 12, and ending on February 24, 2022, for a period of 12 days. Preparing a generation of inspiring and influential young people to have an awareness role on the continent to reduce carbon emissions and greenhouse gases, in preparation for Egypt’s organization of the COP27 Conference of Parties next November 2022.

Ain Shams University offers a free training scholarship to African university students in cooperation with the heads of COP26 represented by the British Council and the Association of African Universities, which includes 500 universities in 52 African countries, will nominate 10 students from each university.

This program is online on the Microsoft Teams application through the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University in cooperation with the Volunteer Team Foundation for Humanitarian Action within the framework of the activities of the Million Initiative, youth volunteers for climate adaptation that the college participated in its establishment and training is carried out by experts and specialized scientific cadres headed by Dr. Noha Samir Donya and supervision from Dr. Mostafa El-Sherbiny, President of the Initiative and Secretary-General Hossam El-Din Mahmoud, as the Federation of African Universities, representing the African Union and the International Federation of Universities, seeks to spread climate culture.

A course will be organized at the beginning of the new academic year for all new students with the participation of the college, the initiative and some African educational institutions.

Program date: starts on Monday, February 12, 2022 and ends on Thursday, February 24, 2022. The program targets African students at African universities in Egypt and abroad.

The trainee is granted a certified attendance certificate for 28 training hours. At the end of the program, the trainee will have the knowledge and ability to:

First: To learn about the concept of climate change, its causes and effects in the field of agriculture, food, water, health and biodiversity, and all the sustainable development goals of Agenda 2063, and in Africa in particular.

Second: Calculate his and others' individual carbon footprint and how to reduce emissions from individual and household uses.

Third: Ways of coping with climate change and climate adaptation measures for individual activities.

Fourth: Reports and international organizations.
