Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reviewed a report on the inclusion of 42 Egyptian universities in the Spanish Scimago classification for 2022, compared to 35 universities last year, an increase of 7 universities this year.
The report stated that Cairo University topped the list of Egyptian universities in the Scimago classification for 2022, as it ranked 456 globally at the level of (8084) universities and research institutions globally, followed by Ain Shams University in second place locally at the level of Egyptian universities, and (578). Globally, Alexandria University is followed by (593) globally, Mansoura University is (606) globally, and Zagazig University is (615) globally.
The report pointed out that the universities of Beni Suef and the Suez Canal ranked (653) globally, and Assiut University ranked 656, followed by Tanta and Al-Azhar universities (661), then Kafr El-Sheikh University in the center (671), followed by Damanhour University (675), then Menoufia University (676).
The report indicated that Minya and Egypt Universities for Science and Technology ranked 680 globally, then Benha University ranked 681, and Misr International University ranked 688, followed by Pharos University in 690, followed by Sadat City University in rank ( 692), followed by Suez University (703), Helwan University (705), South Valley and October Universities for Modern Sciences and Arts (708), the American University in Cairo (710), Future University (712), Followed by Sohag University (713), then Aswan and the Egyptian-Japanese Universities of Science and Technology in the center (718).
The report added that Damietta University ranked 719, then Fayoum University ranked 721, the British University in Egypt ranked 723, then the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport ranked 726, and Zewail City of Science and Technology and University of Port Said ranked (732), then October 6 University ranked (733), followed by the German University in Cairo and Nile University in the position (738), then Deraya University (746), then Al-Nahda University (751).
The report stated that the Higher Institute of Technology appeared in the tenth of Ramadan in the Simago classification for the year 2022, where it was ranked (770) globally, and the Delta University for Science and Technology ranked (771) globally.
Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said that this classification is concerned with ranking universities and research centers according to a composite index, which combines 3 different indicators, based on research performance (50%), innovation outcomes (30%), and societal impact ( 20%), and each major indicator includes a number of sub-indicators, provided that the institution publishes at least (100) searches in the Scopus database during the evaluation year.
He added that this year's Spanish Scimago ranking witnessed remarkable progress for Egyptian universities, which reflects the efforts made by the state to advance the higher education system in Egypt, as well as the efforts made by Egyptian universities to improve their global ranking.
