Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Mr. Mohamed Hassanein, President of Azbakeya District, and Prof. Dr. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rasha Al-Didi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and the implementation of Dr. Mohamed Nassef, head of the General Authority for Adult Education, d. Islam Al-Saeed, Director of the Adult Education Center at the university, d. Huda Fawzy, Director of Abdeen Educational Administration, Dr. Mohamed Kassem, Director of the Literacy and Adult Education Unit at the Faculty of Arts, Sumaya Sami, Dr. Nadia Hashish Mr. Saad Rizk from the faculty and the assistant staff of the community service and environmental development sector at the Faculty.
The convoy’s community service program was numerous, and it included the provision of a training workshop to train students on how to socialize with illiterates for 50 male and female students in advance, with the aim of developing their skills on how to convince the illiterates of the importance of eradicating illiteracy and the benefit to their country, person and family, and raising their standard of living through the theoretical and practical training workshop with Dr. Muhammad Kassem, Director of the Center for Studies, Consultations, Training and Adult Education at the Faculty, Dr. Islam Al-Saeed, Director of the Adult Education Center at the university, the first of its kind among Egyptian universities, Prof. Saad Rizk, coordinator of the history department at the Faculty.
It is noteworthy that new classes have been opened with a refresher and free system under the supervision of the Literacy and Adult Education Unit at the college to be a nucleus for the continuation of activities to eradicate illiteracy within the priorities of the distinguished services provided by the community service and environmental development sector at the college and university for the people of Al-Azbakeya neighborhood in Cairo.
The Faculty of Arts also distributed various in-kind gifts, some of which included clothes and shoes provided by the Egyptian Clothing Bank, as well as Arabic language books, arithmetic, and stationery provided by Dr. Somaya Sami Sabri, Assistant Professor, Department of English, taught illiterates to encourage them to continue learning.
Immediate and refresher level tests for illiterate applicants were held with 127 persons under the supervision of Al-Azbakeya Department of Adult Education, under the supervision of Mr. Gomaa Nassar, director of the administration.
Al- Azbakeya District Presidency, the Adult Education Authority, and the Egyptian Clothing Bank cooperated with the Faculty of Arts in making the convoy a success.
It is noteworthy that this convoy is the sixth of its kind carried out by the community service and environmental development sector at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, in application of the axes of sustainable development and Egypt's future vision 2030.
