The results of the World Innovation Index for the year 2022: Egypt has advanced five places in the innovation index during the current year

Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced that Egypt advanced five places in the World Innovation Index during the year 2022, as it ranked 89th globally out of 132 countries, according to the report issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) compared to 94th place last year.

Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, pointed to Egypt's progress in many indicators related to scientific research and information and communication technology, as Egypt ranked 15th out of 36 low-middle-income countries, as well as Egypt's progress in innovation inputs and outputs. As Egypt ranked 97th in innovation inputs, compared to 102nd during the past year 2021, and as for innovation outputs, Egypt ranked 83rd compared to 86th last year, pointing to the high ranking of Egypt in the indicators of the foundations of institutions (111th position) and market development (the Center 86) and creative output (84th place).

Dr. Mahmoud Sakr reported that Egypt achieved a high rank in the research and development index, as it ranked 54th globally, compared to 55th in 2021, in addition to the increase in the researchers' index by five places, as it achieved the 55th rank, in addition to the increase in the expenditure index on research and development by seven places, where it came Egypt ranked 42 compared to 49 last years.

The President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology confirmed Egypt's progress in the scientific and technical publications index, as it ranked 49th compared to 54th last year, as well as its progress in the high-tech industries export index, where it ranked 86th compared to 90th globally in 2021.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the World Innovation Index is one of the important international indicators issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), noting that it ranks countries according to innovation and its institutions, and the supporting and motivating factors for it.

The official spokesman of the ministry stressed that the remarkable growth witnessed by Egyptian universities and research centers in international scientific publishing is due to several measures that have taken place during the past period, the most important of which are: the technical support provided by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to Egyptian universities, and training in international publishing, pointing out what Universities and research centers motivate researchers with all degrees to publish in prestigious international journals, and the distinguished assessments accorded to internationally published scientific research in the work of scientific promotion committees, provide information sources for researchers via the Internet, and cooperate with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank.

The spokesperson added that the international publishing of scientific research in Egypt through universities and research centers will increase significantly in the future in light of the implementation of the ministry’s plan to support researchers in the field of international publishing, through the role that the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority at the ministry will play in supporting and motivating researchers during the period He explained that according to the international database (Scopus), 38,798 international research papers were published by Egyptian researchers in universities and research centers during the year 2021, an increase of 21.1% over the year 2020, and the number of Egyptian researchers who published international research reached 52,511 researchers.
