The Faculty of Environmental Research at Ain Shams University wins first place in the category of development projects for women in the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects

The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University, with its Shams Bee Green project, won first place in the category of development projects for women in the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects organized by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic.

The participation of Ain Shams University came under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research.

         
   
         

The results of the competition were announced in a ceremony attended by Major General Khaled Abdel Aal, Governor of Cairo, Major General Ahmed Rashid, Governor of Giza, Major General Abdel Hamid El Hagan, Governor of Qalyubia, Ambassador Hisham Badr, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and General Coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, and Eng. Khaled Mustafa, Permanent Representative of the Ministry of Planning and Supervisor The year on the Egypt Award for Governmental Excellence.

Shams Be Green project for solid waste recycling inside the university campus is one of the most important projects

The Green Transformation Unit within the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, the first of its kind in Egyptian universities.

Shams Be Green project aims to develop an integrated sustainable program that works in a systemic manner that aims to achieve the goals of sustainable development and Egypt’s Vision 2030, for the work of waste management on the campus of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research as a first stage, and then the campus in its two wings as a second environmental stage.

The project also includes a comprehensive awareness campaign for the institute’s students and staff to train and educate students at the institute and the various faculties, and to produce environmentally friendly products from recycled materials.

The less fortunate, and thousands of volunteers are involved in this project or initiative, both from inside the university campus (students, researchers, employees) as well as volunteers from outside the university campus from the surrounding community (such as Al-Duwaiqa, Al-Waili, and Manshiet Nasser).

One of the economic objectives of the project is to provide raw materials and, consequently, hard currency, as some import raw materials from abroad.

         
   
         

The clear environmental objectives of the project are to preserve natural resources, and it is considered one of the sustainable development goals of the project in the need to coordinate and manage the various relevant parties: consumer, collector, and producer to reach an integrated management of solid waste with its economic, social and environmental dimensions.

The project also aims to empower women. The project consists of an integrated unit applied to the green urbanization initiative of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and aims to recycle all kinds of waste, such as paper recycling, organic waste recycling, biogas production, plastic recycling, fiber production, and can recycling for copper production, And recycling agricultural waste to produce high-quality fertilizer and a hydroponic and aquaponics surface cultivation unit, and the unit is fully powered by solar and wind energy and aims to rationalize energy and water consumption to achieve the principles of green urbanization, sustainable development and confront the phenomenon of climate change.
