The activities of a symposium entitled How to combat violence against women with disabilities at the Faculty of Specific Education

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Osama El-Sayed Mustafa, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, Prof. Dr. Walaa Anis, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Farag, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, in cooperation with the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit, headed by Prof. Dr. Hind Al-Hilali, Executive Director of the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit at the university, Prof. Dr. Rana Al-Hilali, Director of the Center for Services for Students with Disabilities at the University. In the presence of Mrs. Maha Hilali, alternate rapporteur of the Women with Disabilities Committee in the Council and advisor to the Minister of Solidarity for Disability and Rehabilitation Affairs, and Mrs. Dalia Atef, member of the committee, Dr. Sharifa Massoud, and a group of female and male members of the committee; And as part of the " Msh Aady " initiative launched by the Women's Support Unit in cooperation with the Committee for Women with Disabilities at the National Council for Women, coinciding with the international period (16 days to combat violence against women), the Committee for Women with Disabilities at the National Council for Women held an interactive symposium entitled "How to combat violence against Women with Disabilities" in cooperation with the Women's Support Unit and the Center for Services for Students with Disabilities at Ain Shams University.

         
   
         

Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk discussed the concept of violence against women, its forms, and causes, emphasizing the need to combat violence against women with disabilities.

Prof. Dr. Hind Al-Hilali explained the role of the unit in supporting women at Ain Shams University for male and female students with disabilities to create a safe educational structure on campus. She referred to the training courses offered by the unit to develop the abilities of female students with disabilities, especially psychological and physical, to overcome crises and negative feelings resulting from their exposure to violence and bullying.

Prof. Dr. Rana Al-Hilali, indicated the role and goals of the Center for Services for Students with Disabilities, pointing to the message provided by the center within the university; To integrate and prepare students with disabilities in the university community, and build their capabilities to become qualified, professional and distinguished cadres, to keep pace with the requirements of the labor market.

And reviewed Mrs. Maha Hilali, the role of the Committee for Women with Disabilities in the Council, referring to the types of disabilities, and also touched on how to help people with disabilities through the skills of communicating with them and volunteering, noting the importance of educating others using social media to spread awareness through them, and stressed the importance of having plans and policies that The full participation of a person with a disability in all aspects of life is achieved, without any form of discrimination, to ensure his full enjoyment of all basic rights and freedoms on an equal basis with others.

         
   
         

Mrs. Dalia Atef explained the legal framework for women with disabilities, and the articles concerned with women in the International Convention for Persons with Disabilities, which came as the first Egyptian constitution that recognizes that women with disabilities have a right and not only care, referring to the historical development of laws and the most important rights stipulated in Law No. 10 of 2018 and affirming that they are it is the first time that there is a law that establishes the first inclusive definition of persons with disabilities and guarantees the inclusion of all segments of disability under its umbrella.

Dr. Sharifa Masoud indicated the concept of violence against women, and the double discrimination against women with disabilities that she is exposed to because she has a disability, referring to the causes of these violations, and strategies to deal with the issue of women with disabilities (prevention - protection - criminalization).

On the sidelines of the meetings, Prof. Dr. Dalia Hussein Fahmy, Head of the Musical Band Department at the Faculty of Specific Education and coordinator of the unit within the faculty, presented an artistic piece by female and male students of the faculty who are persons with hearing and visual disabilities.
