Ain Shams University hosts the meeting of the Higher Committee for Literacy

Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs, confirmed the pivotal and strategic role of universities in eradicating illiteracy at the level of the Republic.

This came during a meeting of the Higher Committee for Literacy, chaired by Prof. Dr. Al-Hilali El-Sherbiny, former Minister of Education, which was hosted by Ain Shams University in University City for students, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Nassif, head of the Public Authority for Adult Education, Prof. Dr. Ashour Omari, former head of the General Authority for Adult Education, Dr. Islam Al-Saeed, Director of the Adult Education Center at the university, and a number of university vice presidents, directors of adult education centers in Egyptian universities, and directors of branches of the General Authority for Adult Education at the level of the Republic, in the presence of Mr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Secretary of the Committee.

         
   
         

As expressed by Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud expressed his pride in the students of Ain Shams University participating in the literacy project, and added that the university is always keen to instill positive thinking and a spirit of challenge to its students, which was evident during the university students' review of the challenges they faced in eradicating illiteracy of citizens and how they overcame them.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Al-Hilali El-Sherbiny, thanks Ain Shams University for hosting the committee meeting, pointing out the importance of today's meeting as we are responsible for this national project, universities are the main source driving this project with the aim of reaching the default zero, which represents 7% or less according to Egypt’s Vision 2030. His Excellency also thanked the Egyptian universities as well as the Adult Education Authority for what has been accomplished during the last period, including the universities of Ain Shams, Port Said, Fayoum, Suez and Aswan.

         
   
         

The meeting touched on the work of the schedule, which included; Asking the state authorities to link with the Public Authority for Adult Education, studying the mechanization of part of the project represented in registration and issuance of certificates, investing and guiding students for the project in the first years of study, investing in youth centers and schools outside study time, mosques and churches for literacy classes, in addition to the need to raise awareness that eradicating illiteracy is a national duty.

Dr. Islam Al-Saeed, Director of the Adult Education Center, reviewed Ain Shams University's initiative to integrate its students into the national literacy project, pointing to the success of Ain Shams University students in liberating 54,062 citizens since 2019 until now, thanking the university leaders, directors of literacy units at the university, and the students participating in the project.

As Dr. Heba Al-Ghatmy, Director of the Adult Education Center, Menoufia University, reviewed Menoufia University's experience in eradicating illiteracy.
