The closing activities of Ain Shams University's celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language

Under the slogan (Arabic culture yesterday, today and tomorrow is a life of enjoyment), Ain Shams University organized its celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.

         
   
         

The celebration began in the morning on the main campus of the university and included a number of activities in the presence of the university president and the vice presidents of the university, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Dalal, President of the American University, and a group of gentlemen, ambassadors of Arabic-speaking and non-Arabic speaking countries, and a number of public figures, deans, deputies, faculty staff, and students.

And in the closing activities of the celebration, which were held in the Celebration Hall of the Faculty of Pharmacy, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, a number of deans and vice-presidents of faculties, and a group of officials, academics, thinkers, and media professionals. Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Graduate Studies and Research, during his speech, indicated that there is a trend towards Westernization in our lives, as if what is Arabic does not make us happy, and it is remarkable that the parents of children feel overjoyed that their children master the English language, and do not pay attention to the language Arabic, which may reflect on the person in the future and make him more inclined to the English language.

He added that we do not deny the necessity of learning languages, for acquaintance and familiarity, in addition to their importance in the field of science. We are not against learning languages, but we stress the need to pay attention to the mother tongue, our Arabic language.

         
   
         

At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh delivered a thought in the colloquial language entitled "When Men Cry".

After that, the closing activities began with a series of cultural seminars, the first of which was the symposium 'The Arabic language is a diplomatic tool in a new Arab and international reality', during which Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, spoke.

This was followed by an intervention from the United Nations, during which the spokeswoman for the "Arabic Language Department of the Interpretation Department at the United Nations Headquarters in New York" expressed her happiness at participating in the university's celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language in light of the existence of a memorandum of understanding with the university to prepare interpreters to pass the United Nations exam and join work for it. Announcing the success of three students of the Faculty of Al-Alsun in passing the tests of interpreters that were held recently, stressing that over the years, a group of graduates of the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, shone in the sky of interpretation.

She also talked about aspects of cooperation between the United Nations, the United Nations, and Ain Shams University, especially the Faculty of Al-Alsun, thanking the faculty administration for their continuous support.

         
   
         

After that, a symposium entitled "Ancient Egyptian Languages and Their Effects on the Arabic Language" was held for Prof. Dr. Mamdouh El-Damaty, Minister of Antiquities and former Dean of the Faculty of Archeology.

And another symposium entitled "The Arabic Language and Identity between Literature and Reality" by Prof. Dr. Reem Bassiouni, Professor, and Head of the Department of Linguistics, The American University in Cairo, and Dr. Mark Malhauslor, Head of the Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies at the American University, and Prof. Dr. Osama El-Shazly, Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, at the Faculty of Medicine, moderated the symposium.

And a symposium entitled "Arabic Language, Media, and Foreigners", during which the journalist Mrs. Suzan Hassan, former president of Egyptian TV., journalist and media writer, Mrs. Mona Ragab, a journalist at Al-Ahram newspaper, president of the Egyptian Women Writers Association and a member of the Supreme Council for Culture, writer and journalist Mr. Samir Omar, director of the Sky News Arabia office in Cairo, Egypt's ambassador to the European Union, journalist and reporter Mr. Abdel-Basir Hassan, Senior Correspondent at BBC News Arabia in Cairo, Student/ Madina Navikova (Russia), Student/ Wang Wei (China), Student/ Bakhit Jan Sagintay (Kazakhstan).

Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, honored all the participants in the seminars, and gave a set of recommendations, including that those interested in the Arabic language should search for carefully selected means to connect the different spectrums of society with the Arabic language. For example, music is an attractive way to connect individuals with their language. Today, the children of the choir (Kian) sang in Arabic in a manner that won everyone's admiration.

He also recommended the need to pay attention to spreading the Arabic language and to ensure that the celebration is held annually to spread awareness of the beauty of the Arabic language.

Finally, he emphasized that decision-makers should follow educational policies that support the Arabic language.
