At the end of last week, the Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University, concluded a mock trial competition for pleading, which was organized by the Department of English for the first time for students of the department, as one of the activities that focus on raising the student's skills and preparing him for the labor market.
The competition, which accepted everyone who applied to participate in it, included more than a hundred students from the English section, the preparation stage, which began since the end of last October with holding two workshops per week for a period of six weeks on legal research and analysis skills, writing and summarizing legal provisions, and preparing and presenting pleadings before international courts.
Then followed the qualifying stage based on the written notes, from which sixteen students qualified to participate in the final stage, which is the stage of oral pleadings, which took place over several days last week in front of a group of faculty professors, and a group of graduates who hold prestigious judicial and scientific positions.
These workshops presented to the students of the internal competition of Ain Shams University by a group of graduates of the English section who had previously participated in mock trial competitions on behalf of the faculty.
The final match took place in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Mohamed Safi, Dr. Mohamed El Shafei, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Dehom, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environment Affairs, and Dr. Hossam Al-Attar, Director of the Faculty’s English Division.
The panel of judges in the final match consisted of Judge Abd al-Rahman Jamal, a judge in the State Council, a graduate of the department and one of the former participants on behalf of the college in the Oxford competition, as well as lawyer Ragia Shukri, a lawyer in the Shalakany office, a graduate of the division and one of the organizers of the Jessup International Competition for mock trials, in addition to Dr. Ahad Fathi Khalifa, Supervisor of the competition and the faculty’s mock trial teams.
In his closing speech, the Dean of the Faculty stressed the importance of these activities in ensuring the quality of the educational process and linking education with practice, as well as in preparing the Faculty's graduates in a way that allows them to compete in the labor market.
This was followed by the handing over of certificates to the participants, as well as to the winning team consisting of the student Farah Attia and the student Othman Muhammad, the student, Sama Islam, also won the award for the best contestant in the competition.
