The activities of the regional qualifiers for the Middle East region for the (Price) Competition of the University of Oxford started from the 9th to the 12th of March in the Faculty of Law Council Hall, under the auspices of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, Prof. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and this is an implementation of the cooperation agreement concluded by Ain Shams University with Bonavero Institute at the Faculty of Law at Oxford University last year, according to which the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University became the regional partner of Oxford University in the field of sham trials.
The international organizing team from Oxford University participated in the opening session, which included all the participating teams, as well as the organizing team for the competition in the Middle East region, consisting of former participants in the competition who are graduates of Ain Shams University. They volunteered to communicate with the participating teams and judges, and they prepared the schedules over the three months. The latter, as well as following up the technical preparation for the competition during the match days.
The organizing team consisted of Ms. Ola Nagy, Ms. Nada Gadallah, and Dr. Ahmed Khalifa, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Faculty of Law, and the regional coordinator of the competition in the Middle East.
This year’s qualifiers are witnessing a great competition between many universities from the Middle East region from several countries, including Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Tunisia. More than thirty judges from India, Mexico, Britain, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Tunisia and Palestine participate in the competition’s arbitration.
Four teams from this competition qualify to participate in the international competition in which the finalists from all the world's teams compete in Oxford, Britain, in mid-April.
Dr. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, stated that the faculty's hosting of this international competition in cooperation with Oxford University, and before that the college's hosting of the national mock trial competition in the field of international humanitarian law last December, comes within the framework of the college's plan to be a center for activities aimed at developing Legal education in Egypt and the Arab region.
