The President of Ain Shams University receives a delegation from American universities to discuss ways of joint cooperation in cooperation with AMIDEAST

Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, received a delegation from the Embassy of the United States of America in Cairo, AMIDEAST Egypt, and representatives of several American universities, at the Networking and Information Technology Center at the university, in the presence of Prof. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Ayman Saleh, Vice President University for Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and a group of faculties deans and vice-deans in an expanded meeting to discuss ways of cooperation between the university and American universities in cooperation with AMIDEAST, within the framework of opening horizons of international cooperation and upgrading it in various fields educational, cultural and research.

During the meeting, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, gave a quick presentation on the university since its inception in 1950 as the third Egyptian university, and its geographical location. He also shed light on the university's faculties, pointing out that Ain Shams University is a giant with 20 faculties and institutes, and that 10.2 % of the university’s faculties are international faculties, whether through partnership programs and double degrees with international universities of global value or with the presence of faculty staff from abroad. His Excellency also reviewed the numbers of university students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, indicating that there are 9,000 thousand expatriate students from different nationalities, which represents 4.5% of university students.

Also, during the focused and comprehensive presentation delivered by the university president, he dealt with the various student activities that the university guarantees to its students, believing in their importance in developing the student’s personality, such as sports and artistic activities, indicating that the university has more than one choir, including Roh El-Sharq choir, which has a global and local reputation, as the university students were able to win international and local awards in the field of theater, in addition to the local and international scientific and research competitions in various fields, in which the university students won multiple awards.

The university president also shed light on the university's scientific research, international publishing, grants, research projects, and centers of excellence, indicating that during the past five years, the university had three centers of excellence in cooperation with the American side in the fields of (energy, water, culture).

He also talked about the position of Ain Shams University in international rankings, indicating that the university is one of the best 2% of universities in the world. He also indicated that there is international cooperation between the university and institutions from 38 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the United States, with a number of international agreements amounting to 266 agreements, and 85 of them have been signed in recent years.

During the meeting, His Excellency also reviewed the university's efforts to transform into a green university, and its endeavors in the field of digital transformation, which began before the Corona pandemic, and whose pace was accelerated by the pandemic, highlighting the educational platforms at Ain Shams University such as ASU 2 Leaning, ASU E assessment platform, and also dealing with a virtual Ain Shams hospital and its efforts during the Corona period.

During the comprehensive presentation presented by the President of Ain Shams University, he talked about the innovation departments at the university (the Innovation and Creativity Center, the Training Center, and the ASU Career Center), as well as the university hospitals, which provide medical services to more than one million patients annually.

Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini also spoke about the services provided by the university to the community within the framework of its societal role, such as comprehensive convoys, participation in literacy eradication, spreading awareness of climate change, holding cultural forums, and providing consulting centers in several fields.

After the introductory presentation, the discussion was opened and all the attendees' inquiries were answered in an interactive discussion. The university president expressed his aspiration to cooperate with American universities in the research and academic field and exchange students and professors, stressing that Ain Shams University is keen to open up to international universities and provide an educational service that keeps pace with international levels. And that Egypt is a safe country and its people are friendly. The university provides all facilities for foreign students to integrate them into the university community, and through the university’s foreign affairs department, where students enjoy a package of distinguished services.

It is noteworthy that the delegation of American universities included representatives of (North Carolina State, Alabama, California Santa Cruz, Rutgers, Colorado State, Massachusetts, Amherst, Tufts, Wellesley College, Massachusetts,

George Washington, Michigan State, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts -Dartmouth Campus, Rutgers)

The AMIDEAST delegation also included the Regional Director, Director of the Alexandria Office, Deputy Director of the Scholarships and Cultural Exchange Programs Department, Programs Officer at the Scholarships and Cultural Exchange Programs Department, Director of the Marketing Department, and Marketing Specialist.
