The Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research celebrates the forty years of its establishment as part of the activities of the eleventh annual conference of Ain Shams University

The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University celebrated the fortieth anniversary of its establishment, in the presence of Prof. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Faculty.

The celebration came within the activities of the eleventh annual international conference of Ain Shams University under the title "Knowledge Economy ... for a Better Life", which is held under the auspices of Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University The President of the Conference, Prof. Abdel-Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research and Executive President of the Conference, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.

In his speech, Prof. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs and former President of Ain Shams University, praised the boom that Ain Shams University witnessed during the age of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University and the deputies.

He added that the coming period for the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research should strive for its degree to have more weight at the local and global levels and to contribute to supporting state projects in its field.

In his speech, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, congratulated the faculty on its celebration of the 40th anniversary of its establishment, and thanked the first generation of faculty professors, the current dean of the faculty and her team for continuous cooperation and communication to reach the best.

He added that when the faculty started, it was and still is an icon that played an effective role in the last period, and it has to do more in light of the trend towards interdisciplinary, which the state pays close attention to in line with the global trend, stressing that climate change is one of the most important files that receive global attention because of its effects on all aspects of life.

And Prof. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Ain Shams University, expressed his happiness at getting to know more faculty staff and cadres of different ages from the prestigious faculty, and that he was honored to work with them and follow up on the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research.

He added that the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research was a unique and unprecedented faculty when it was established, and urged the faculty team to take rapid steps to develop the faculty to keep pace with the rapid changes, and work to increase international scientific publication.

Prof. Ayman Saleh discussed the effects of climate change, stressing the need to provide innovative solutions to mitigate and adapt to the effects of environmental changes, and to create a better educational environment for future generations by stimulating creativity and innovation and providing opportunities for younger generations by supporting them and providing them with expertise.

As Dr. Shereen Fekry, Assistant Minister of Environment, delivered a speech on behalf of the Egyptian Minister of Environment, during which she extended her sincere congratulations to the scientists and professors who have worked in the Faculty of Research and Environmental Studies and the graduates of this lighthouse for 40 years, expressing her sincere wishes that this scientific lighthouse will continue its work over the coming years.

The Assistant Minister of Environment affirmed that knowledge and science represent the real beginning of drawing attention and focusing on issues of protecting and preserving the environment from all forms of pollution, especially with the growing environmental challenges and their direct overlap in all aspects of life.

Dr. Shireen Fikry explained that the repercussions of global warming have appeared recently, which required a scientific vision that helps to confront all these challenges through research and recommendations that work to achieve goals, the most important of which is the preservation of the environment and natural resources. There is no doubt that the efforts and executive steps on the part of the state It must be accompanied and supported by a scientific vision and a comprehensive knowledge view to keep track of the growing challenges and major developments facing Egypt at the national and international levels. It is the national message whose burden is borne by the scientific authorities, at the heart of which is the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, which has presented, over the past 40 years, a large number of scientific papers and research theses that included the environment and its various issues.

For her part, Prof. Noha Samir Donia thanked the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, for his continuous support for the Faculty, and Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, for his continuous interest in the faculty and providing full support for the development of the faculty. She reviewed the principles of the faculty’s work plan, which is in line with Egypt's plan for sustainable development. 2030, and also touched on the efforts made to transform the institute into a faculty, in an epic in which all the staff of the center participated.

And she announced that the new regulations for the faculty have been approved by the Minister of Higher Education, and they will be applied in the next academic year.

She also shed light on the position of the faculty globally, in terms of the percentage of research, noting that the largest percentage of it is from the Department of Medical Sciences, the number of expatriates, applied research projects within the faculty, the Journal of Environmental Sciences, and the ten units of the faculty. She also talked about new programs, twinning, and partnerships with international universities. .

Prof. Noha Donia touched on ambitions, including the addition of a new program for the faculty, which is health, the global multidisciplinary unit, keeping pace with local and global developments, the establishment of a center of excellence for the circular economy in partnership with the University of Granada in Spain, and the establishment of a chemical and biological safety and security center in partnership with Dr. Muhammad Sharif Mustafa, at the Faculty of Agriculture, as well as the announcement of the establishment of the Faculty’s Alumni Association.

The Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research added that the faculty is seeking to establish a museum to preserve video seminars, environmental studies and research, which is the result of the efforts of Ain Shams University in the environmental file over forty years.

While Prof. Mohsen Tawfiq, founder of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, explained the idea of establishing the institute is to gather multiple disciplines in one place, and it is the same view that has begun to prevail in the world today, based on the systemic thinking approach, as dealing partially with the world is a cause of problems, and he talked about the stages of development Postgraduate Institute.

The daughter of the late Prof. Mahmoud Hosni, the first dean of the faculty, gave a speech in which she thanked all those in charge of the faculty for the good reception and for inviting her to participate in the name of her late father in this celebration. She also talked about her father and his scientific career.

During the celebration, a video was shown by Prof. Mohsen Tawfiq about the establishment of the faculty, and another video by the dean of the faculty, during which she talked about the various departments of the faculty, the developments it witnessed, and the most important achievements. It also included a presentation of congratulating representatives of a number of parties to the faculty on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its establishment.

At the end of the celebration, Prof. Noha Samir Donia honored Prof. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health Affairs, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, Prof. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Studies and Research.

The success partners and development partners who contributed to raising the name of the faculty were also honored. They are the expert Magdy Allam, the environmental expert and consultant to the Global Environment Facility, Prof. Hussein Abaza, the global professor of sustainable development, in addition to honoring Dr. Sherine Fikry, Assistant Minister of Environment, who received the honor on behalf of the Minister of Environment and the deans, and former and full-time professors, and the most prominent graduates of the faculty were also honored.
