Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, opened the activities of the International Conference on Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery for the year 2023, which is organized by the Department of Neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, with the participation of the Egyptian Association of Neurosurgeons, headed by Prof. Ashraf El-Abyadh, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Ain Shams University, and Prof. Walid Abdel-Ghany, Secretary General of the conference, from May 24-26 at the Triumph Hotel in the Fifth Settlement.
In his speech, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, emphasized the university's support for the Department of Neurosurgery in this important international conference, in addition to the continuous support to provide all the capabilities and facilities needed by the department. He also praised this fruitful cooperation between the Department of Neurosurgery at Ain Shams Medicine and the Society the Egyptian Neurosurgeons and the Middle Eastern Society for Functional Brain Surgery, praising the efforts exerted in organizing the conference and its rich agenda.
The university president also praised the international level for the conference, which is held in the presence of more than thirty foreign lecturers from the largest international universities, and discusses one of the most delicate disciplines, stressing the full support of the university for the conference and the department.
Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, also praised the history of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University and its role in raising the academic and scientific level of the college, stressing that the university and the Faculty of Medicine always keep pace with all global developments and events, and that the faculty supports all departments In catching up with the rapid global developments.
For his part, Prof. Ashraf Al-Abyad, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery and Chairman of the Conference, confirmed that the department's interest in holding the conference and other activities aims to keep pace with the great developments in the field, in addition to presenting the latest developments in the field of brain, neurosurgery and spine surgery worldwide, stressing that the department He is keen to hold this forum annually to achieve the maximum benefit for all surgeons.
He expressed his happiness at the international level on which the conference is held in cooperation with the Egyptian Society of Neurosurgeons, which includes more than 120 lectures in various subspecialties of brain, neurosurgery and spine surgery, and called on all attendees to actively participate in all activities of the conference.
Prof. Nasser Al-Ghandour, President of the Egyptian Society for Neurosurgery, delivered a speech in which he praised the conference, which discusses all that is new in micro-brain and neurosurgery to keep pace with the great development it is witnessing, and discusses how to benefit from modern technology and new devices that have recently begun to be used on a large scale with the aim of adding More for this important specialty.
Prof. Walid Abdel-Ghany, Secretary General of the Conference, explained that the activities include more than one workshop, as the workshops started from May 21 until the start of the conference, in order to provide practical training for young doctors under the supervision of the largest specialized professors, whether using equipped corpses or stereotyped training models.
Prof. Wassim El-Sisi, Professor of Egyptology and Urologist, also lectured about the beginning of medicine in the time of the ancient Egyptians. The audience praised this lecture.
Prof. Osama El-Shazly, the novelist and professor of orthopedic surgery at Ain Shams University, talked about the development of medicine over the years, the crises that medicine experienced around the world, and how they were dealt with.
The closing activities of the opening session witnessed the presence of Prof. Ashraf Al-Abyad honoring Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University and Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Mamdouh Salama is one of the pioneers of neurosurgery in Egypt and one of the founders of the Department of Neurosurgery at Ain Shams Medicine, Dr. Wassim El-Sisi, Professor of Egyptology, Urologist, and Prof. Dr. Hesham Al-Anwar, director of Ain Shams Specialized Hospital.
The ceremony included a video presentation of the history of the Department of Neurosurgery and its stages of development over the past years, up to the present time, and until it reached international levels.
A video was also shown to commemorate the Egyptian and international professors of brain and neurosurgery who left our world during the past few years, and a minute of mourning was observed for their souls.
It is noteworthy that the conference this year witnesses many events and various lectures that include all subspecialties of brain, neurosurgery and spine surgery. In addition to all the faculty members of the Neurosurgery Department, Ain Shams University.
The opening session witnessed a high turnout, as it included about 250 invited neurosurgeons in Egypt and Egyptian universities.
Sessions will be devoted to the conference for the first time this year to discuss the role of women in neurosurgery and to present honorable and promising models of female doctors who specialize in this difficult specialization. Shams, dedicating a session to listen to the research submitted by young doctors, which won grades through the evaluation of the scientific committee of the conference. Prizes will be presented for the best research participating in the activities of the closing session of the conference.
