The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, is organizing the fifth conference under the title: “Journey of Medical microbiologists and infection preventionists toward Egypt vision 2030: challenges and opportunities.” Under the supervision of Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, and headed by Prof. Maha Hamdy, Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the Training and Education Center at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, Hall 502.
The conference will be followed by several workshops in the field of laboratory medicine and infection control, as follows:
- A workshop on infection control entitled "How to reduce surgical site infection", a mechanism for developing a program to reduce the rate of infection after surgical operations within the various treatment institutions, with training, on Thursday, March 2, and the cost of the workshop: is 700 pounds and the participant will receive a certificate at the end of the workshop the job.
Target group: Infection control and prevention workers, nurses, doctors, and quality professionals.
Aim of the workshop:
Improving the quality of health care provided to patients to reduce the rate of infection in accordance with international standards and guidelines, applying and reviewing the use of sterilization techniques in dealing with surgical wounds infection using mannequins, and developing and implementing an improvement project to reduce the rate of post-operative infection using quality tools.

- A workshop on bacteria entitled: test the efficiency of disinfectants (testing the effectiveness of disinfectants) on Saturday, March 4th. The cost of the workshop: is 500 pounds and the participant will receive a certificate at the end of the workshop.
Target audience: Infection control practitioners, microbiologists, and laboratory professionals.
Aim of the workshop:
How to test the efficiency of different disinfectants in the hospital laboratory, and how to choose the appropriate disinfectants in hospitals.

Fungus workshop entitled:
Clinical and laboratory diagnosis of fungal infection
(Clinical and laboratory examination for the diagnosis of fungal infection...) on Saturday, March 4th and Sunday, March 5th. The cost of the workshop: is 700 pounds and the trainee will obtain a certificate at the end of the workshop
Target group: Doctors of microbiology, dermatologists, and laboratory specialists.
The objective of the Workshop Mastering the Basics:
Collect fungal samples
Conditions for transportation and storage of samples
Proper sample handling.
Interpretation of fungal culture results

Define requirements for cell culture techniques.
Explaining techniques of cell culture procedures including cell line preparation and virus inoculation.

Workshop under the title:
Different methods for testing the antibacterial effect of natural extracts
(Different methods for testing the effectiveness of natural extracts as antibacterial), on Tuesday, March 7th
The cost of the workshop: is 500 pounds and the participant will receive a certificate at the end of the workshop.
Target group: Microbiologists, pharmacists and laboratory professionals
Aim of the workshop:
Identify the antibacterial effect of different natural extracts
Evaluation of the antibacterial effect of natural extracts using agar well and disc diffusion method
Statement of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI)-approved antimicrobial susceptibility testing of the isolates used versus the effectiveness of natural antibacterial extracts tested by agar spread methods.
