On Tuesday, August 15, the Center for Legal and Economic Studies at the Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University, organized a scientific symposium on Egyptian customs laws with the aim of introducing the provisions of the new Egyptian Customs Law No. 207 of 2020, its executive regulations No. 430 of 021, and Presidential Decree No. 218 of 2022 issuance of the customs tariff.
Prof. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty, opened the symposium, welcoming the attendees, and extending sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. El-Shahat Al-Ghatouri, Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, for the presence of his Excellency and his accompanying delegation to the Faculty of Law to shed light on this issue that concerns all members of society, and needs more of explanation and clarification.
The Dean of the Faculty thanked Prof. Sally Samir Fahmy Abd Al-Masih, Director of the Center, for her efforts in organizing such seminars that enhance the applied aspect of legal studies, and Advisor. Suha Al-Saadani for helping to organize the symposium.
Then the Dean of the Faculty managed the session, where he conveyed the speech to Mr. Shahat Al-Ghatouri, Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, who gave a full and simplified explanation of the topic, where he talked about the concept of customs, the objectives and functions of imposing customs tariffs, the relationship between customs and foreign investment, and penalties for violating customs laws, customs facilities provided by the Customs Authority, developments in the Authority, and the dry port system.
Then Prof. Safwat Abdel Salam, Professor of Political Economy and Financial Legislation and former Vice Dean of the Faculty, presented the idea of justice in customs laws and their application standards.
The session was followed by an extensive discussion between the lecturers and attendees, in which the Chairman of the Department responded to all questions.
The Dean of the Faculty concluded the symposium by giving the head of the Egyptian Customs Authority the shield of the faculty and honored the delegation accompanying, which included Dr. Hala Mahmoud Abdel Wahed, Advisor to the Head of the Authority, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Saeed, Director General of Technical Research in the Office of the Head of the Authority, and Mr. Diaa El Din Hamdy Abdel Al-Samie, Director of the Inspection Department in the Central Region of the Customs Authority, Prof. Safwat Abdel Salam Awad Allah, and Advisor Suha Al-Saadani.
The symposium was attended by Prof. Mohamed El Shafei, Professor of Economics and Public Finance and Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Yassin El Shazly, Professor of Commercial Law and Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and a large number of faculty staff, their assistants, researchers, interested parties and students.
