Ain Shams University honors students of the Faculty of Al-Alsun trained in simultaneous translation at the United Nations headquarters

Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting President of the University, Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun, and Prof. Ashraf Attia, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun for Postgraduate Studies and Research, received a number of postgraduate students, who have completed a training program on simultaneous translation, with the Interpretation Department at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where the students received certificates of passing the training program accredited by the United Nations Translation Department.

         
   
         

Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting President of the University, explained that this training program comes within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between Ain Shams University, represented by the Faculty of Al-Alsun and the United Nations Translation Department, which includes conducting several cultural and training activities in the field of translation.

During the last two years, two simultaneous translation training programs were conducted to qualify students to pass the competitive examination announced by the United Nations to appoint translators at its various headquarters.

         
   
         

Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, indicated that last year two female students from the English Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun passed this exam, one of whom was selected for the Interpretation Department at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and the other at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva.

She added that 12 students from the English and French departments participated in the last training program, and the program lasted 3 months with the participation of professional interpreters from the United Nations translation departments.

Explaining that Ain Shams University is represented in the Faculty of Al-Alsun; The only Egyptian university that signed such an agreement to cooperate with the largest international organization in the field of translation.

For his part, Prof. Ashraf Attia, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies and Research, indicated that starting from October 20, a new program for training in written translation will begin in cooperation with the Translation Department in Geneva, in which a number of postgraduate students in the English Language Department will participate.
