The College of Girls at Ain Shams University organized a symposium entitled Proper nutrition and rationalization of consumption using low-cost food alternatives, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa, President of the University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Prof. Amira Youssef, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Heba Barakat, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development, in cooperation with the Department of Home Economics.
The symposium was delivered by Dr. Entisar Saad, lecturer in the department, where she reviewed the meaning of proper nutrition and essential nutrients and their importance. She also pointed out how to use plant proteins in meals as an alternative to animal proteins in light of the high prices. The symposium included several important points, including the importance of fats and oils, the harms of hydrogenated oils, and how to calculate the ideal weight. By calculating the body mass index (BMI) and how to maintain the ideal weight to avoid obesity and thinness. At the conclusion of the symposium, the floor was opened for discussion and responses to the students’ inquiries.
