The first comprehensive development convoy for the Greater Cairo Region Universities Alliance in the New Duwayqa neighborhood

Within the framework of the efforts of the Greater Cairo Region Universities Alliance to launch a group of comprehensive development convoys for the neediest area, with the participation of the universities of Ain Shams, Cairo, Helwan, Banha and Al-Azhar, in addition to the participation of a number of community institutions such as: Bahia Hospital, Cairo Lions Club, Tulip, and the General Authority for Adult Education.

Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development, the activities of the caravan, opened a tour to the caravan clinics, in the presence of Prof. Gehan Ragab, advisor to the Vice President of Ain Shams University for community service and environmental development affairs, and the convoy coordinator, Dr. Heba Adel, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Girl for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Caravan Coordinator, Prof. Islam Al-Saeed, Director of the Adult Education Center at the University, and Dr. Safinaz Al-Yamani, Director General of the Medical District.

         
   
         

The faculties of Ain Shams University: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Girls, and Archaeology, are participating in providing the convoy services, in addition to representation from the universities of Cairo, Helwan, Banha, Al-Azhar, and a number of community institutions.

Prof. Ghada Farouk, praised the state’s tangible efforts to raise the efficiency of the infrastructure of the New Al-Duwayqa area, develop it and beautify it to appear in an honorable, civilized image.

The activities of the caravan included the provision of medical services in various specialties, including: children, ophthalmic, skin, bones, internal medicine, nose, ears and teeth, in addition to family medicine services for measuring blood pressure and sugar, and public and reproductive health awareness. The caravan pharmacy also provides its services free of charge.

         
   
         

On the educational, awareness and development side, the convoy offers a number of awareness seminars to the people about proper nutrition and disease prevention, especially in the holy month of Ramadan, personal hygiene, protection from diseases, healthy habits to prevent diseases, and provides educational training workshops for the people, such as soap making.

The University's Adult Education Center, in cooperation with the General Authority for Adult Education, holds immediate tests for those who are free from illiteracy.

Regarding the community support, the convoy provides covers, blankets, and food supplies to the neediest families, and participates in a toothpaste company’s campaign to raise awareness about the importance of dental hygiene and distribute free samples.

         
   
         

A team from Cairo University participated in providing psychological support campaigns, self-rehabilitation, awareness, religious and vocational education, and a workshop entitled “Prepare to go green by growing ornamental plants, shade plants, and herbal plants at home.”

A team from Helwan University from the Faculty of Fine Arts also participated in providing artistic workshops, a team from the Faculty of Physical Education for Girls conducted sports activities for school children and provided awareness to girls before marriage, and a team from the Faculty of Nursing participated in measuring blood pressure and blood sugar.

A medical team from Benha University participated in the specializations of “ophthalmology, internal medicine, bones, skin, and children.”

Members of the Cairo Lions Club provide environmental awareness about sustainable development, its importance, and its connection to waste recycling.

A team from Bahia Hospital also provided awareness on the importance of early detection and how to self-examine.
