Within the framework of World Kidney Day, the Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Department of General Internal Medicine, organized a symposium entitled “For prevention and optimal treatment of the kidneys,” under the patronage of Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, Prof. Hala Sweid, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Dalia Abdel Mohsen, Head of the General Internal Medicine Department, and Prof. Magdy El Sharkawy, Head of the Kidney Unit, gave a lecture at the symposium.
During the symposium, the importance of paying attention to the need to maintain the health and safety of the kidneys was emphasized, as the kidneys not only get rid of toxins and excess salts, but they maintain control of blood pressure, hemoglobin levels, bone health, and maintain blood salt levels and blood acidity.
It was pointed out that there are no specific symptoms of kidney disease, especially in the early stages. The disease must be monitored and treated early to prevent its development into deficiency or complete failure of the kidneys.
It is noteworthy that the celebration of World Kidney Day aims to spread community awareness of the necessity of early screening for kidney diseases by analyzing urine for albumin and checking the level of creatinine in the blood, while adhering to sports and healthy food, avoiding smoking, excessive use of painkillers, and avoiding obesity, so that we can achieve good health and healthy kidneys together.
