Basics of cybersecurity, User Rights, and Digital Services… A workshop at the Faculty of Education

Sponsored by Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zein El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Safaa Shehata, Acting Dean of the Faculty, and under the supervision of Prof. Alaa El-Din Abdel Halim, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Coordination of Prof. Farea Hassan, professor in the Faculty’s Curriculum Department and director of the UNESCO Club at the Faculty, hosted a symposium entitled “Basics of Cybersecurity, User Rights and Digital Services,” which was organized by the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO - ALECSO - ISESCO) in cooperation with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Ministry of Communications. and information technology, in the presence of a group of faculty staff and many students from many specializations.

This workshop comes within a series of workshops held by the National Committee in cooperation with the relevant partner agencies to educate student members of UNESCO clubs within Egyptian universities about the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of their data and privacy to increase their awareness of the nature of electronic blackmail crimes, their consequences, the laws regulating it, and how to deal if a student falls into this crime. Circle.

Prof. Mohamed El-Hamhemy, chief cybersecurity expert at the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, discussed the topic of cybersecurity and its importance, which is evident in protecting digital systems and information from cyberthreats, which preserves data integrity and personal and commercial privacy. Cybersecurity helps prevent hacks, fraud, and tampering with information, protecting individuals, organizations, and governments from financial and reputational losses. In addition, cybersecurity contributes to enhancing confidence in digital systems and encouraging innovation and technological development in various fields.

Dr. Sameh Saeed, Director of the User Rights Department at the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, talked in his speech about the importance and role of the Authority in protecting the rights of users in the field of communications and providing support and protection to them, which includes protecting privacy and personal data and ensuring the rights to access communications services in a fair and equal manner. His Excellency stressed that the agency must develop policies and regulations that preserve the rights of users and regulate and monitor communications service providers to ensure the provision of high-quality services at appropriate prices. These measures are considered an essential part of strengthening the ICT environment in Egypt and enhancing trust between service users and providers.

Mr. Islam Eltahawy, media officer at the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO confirmed that the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture for UNESCO in Egypt aims to develop the educational system and improve its quality, promote scientific research and innovation in various fields, and support culture, arts, and national heritage.

Within this framework, the university’s role comes in ensuring safety and security in the digital environment, which represents a vital role in enhancing confidence and stability and enhancing economic interaction. The university also seeks to protect users' rights, including privacy and security, with the aim of enhancing respect for the individual and promoting transparency and social justice. Accordingly, the importance of cybersecurity awareness and protecting user rights is an integral part of the university’s initiatives to achieve sustainable development.
