Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Professor Amr Shaker, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sehetna Foundation, signed a cooperation protocol between the two parties, through which the Foundation contributes to equipping the new emergency, blood transfusion center, and cancer unit at the Children’s Hospital, which contributes to increasing the hospital’s capacity to treat approximately three hundred thousand patients annually and three million children over the next ten years, at a cost of 84 million pounds.
The protocol signing ceremony was witnessed by Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors, Prof. Tariq Youssef, Executive Director of the Hospitals, and Dr. Rabab Youssef, CEO of Sehetna Foundation and a group of leaders of Sehetna Foundation.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts made to achieve this strategic partnership between the two parties, which reflects Ain Shams University’s commitment to enhancing health care and developing medical infrastructure, which contributes to improving the quality of medical services provided to incapable patients and enhancing hospitals’ capabilities to face health challenges with all effectiveness and efficiency.
The President of Ain Shams University emphasized the role of civil society institutions in university activities in general, health activities and treatment of patients in particular, noting that civil society donations are increasing and continuing, which confirms their confidence in Ain Shams University and in the positive return of those donations.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa praised the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, and the vital role that university hospitals play in the health care sector in Egypt, pointing out that university hospitals represent a vital intersection point between education, health care and scientific research, and provide comprehensive medical services that include: treatment and training in the fields of medicine and nursing, also Ain Shams University Hospitals works to provide advanced medical services and apply the latest technologies and therapeutic procedures to patients, which contributes to improving the level of health care in Egypt.
Mr. Amr Shaker, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sehetna Foundation, stated that “Over the past five years, the Foundation has contributed to treating more than 2 million patients by providing medical devices and supplies worth 250 million, and its dream is to reach ten million patients by 2030.”
He added that "The Foundation was able to provide medical equipment to university hospitals in all governorates of Egypt, from Aswan to Alexandria, and our health also provided Demerdash Hospitals at Ain Shams University with medical equipment amounting to approximately 155 million pounds, which contributes to the treatment of 10,000 patients annually."
He added that " The working with the cadres and leaders of hospitals affiliated with Ain Shams University is a cooperation that Sehetna is proud of and cherishes.", because of their ability to transform dreams into realities, and because of their skills at various levels that enable them to provide high-quality and specialized care for patients, and achieve the best therapeutic results for them.
Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hospitals, praised the fruitful cooperation with Sehetna Foundation, stressing that during the past five years many developments have been completed in university hospitals with the contribution of the Foundation, pointing out that there was a keenness on both sides to use the donated amounts to develop hospitals to provide the best medical and therapeutic service, and there was also a strong keenness to maintain the developments that had been made, praising the Foundation’s continuous follow-up of the projects to which it contributed.
Prof. Tarek Youssef explained that Sehetna Foundation is one of the most important institutions that supports Ain Shams University Hospitals, praising the continuous cooperation between the two parties, which began in 2018 to support health services in the university hospitals, and presented examples of the development projects to which the Foundation contributed, including equipping cardiac care units at the Heart and Thoracic Academy, cardiac care at Al Batinah Hospital, and the new stroke unit at Al Batinah Hospital, which will be opened soon.
The signing of the protocol was attended by Prof. Manal Hamdy Al-Sayed, Professor and Head of the Children’s Department, Dr. Issam Fakhry, Assistant Executive Director for Therapeutic Affairs and Director of Al-Demerdash Surgical Hospital, Prof. Fatima Obaid, Professor of Hematology, at the Department of Pediatrics, and Dr. Yasmine Gamal, Director of the Children's Hospital in Demerdash.
