Coinciding with World Glaucoma Week, the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, organized a celebration to participate in this global event, under the patronage of Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, Prof. Hala Sweid, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Prof. Amr Saleh Galal Moussa, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Surgery.
This event was organized by the Department of Ophthalmology and Surgery in cooperation with the Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector at the faculty. The celebration activities began with a group of medical lectures for young doctors to raise awareness about modern methods of detecting and treating glaucoma, delivered by a number of department professors.
This was followed by a seminar delivered by Dr. Ola Omar, assistant professor in the department, entitled (Symptoms and risks of glaucoma and the difference between glaucoma and white water) for the purpose of community awareness. The symposium addressed the causes of glaucoma and its complications, how to detect it early, the importance of periodic detection for early detection of the disease, and methods of treatment and follow-up. The symposium also addressed the definition of glaucoma, its symptoms, and the difference between them, and between blue water.
On the sidelines of the celebration, a medical eye pressure survey was conducted for attendees, faculty and hospital employees, and hospital visitors, including patients and relatives, for early detection of the disease.
