The Confucius Institute at Ain Shams University organized the International Preparatory Competition for Chinese Language Bridge, under the patronage of Professor Dr. Muhammad Zia Zain Al-Abidin, President of the University, and Ambassador Liao Liqiang, the Chinese Ambassador to Cairo, and under the supervision of Minister Counselor Luo Chunsheng, Director of the Educational Office of the Chinese Embassy, and Professor Dr. Nasser Abdel-Al, Director of the Institute. Confucius at Ain Shams University and Mr. Huang Lu Yang, Chinese Director of the Institute.
The competition was held in the Grand Conference Hall at Ain Shams University on Monday, April 22, with the participation of 26 contestants from Egyptian and private universities and Confucius Institutes in Egypt. The universities of Ain Shams, Cairo, Helwan, Banha, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Luxor, the Egyptian Chinese University, Misr for Science and Technology, and 6th of October University participated in the competition. The Canadian Al-Ahram, Badr University, the British University, and the Higher Institute of Languages and Translation.
The international competition began with the written exam for the sixth level in the Chinese language in the halls of the Faculty of Al-Alsun. Then each contestant gave a linguistic, cultural, and artistic presentation and an oral exam on the stage of the university’s conference hall.
The jury, consisting of 6 Chinese arbitrators, decided to advance the winning contestants to the final competition, which is scheduled to be held in one of the major hotels in Cairo on May 12.
The ceremony was witnessed by the heads of Chinese language departments, a group of professors specializing in Chinese linguistic studies, and students from Egyptian universities, and the event was covered by the Chinese media.
It is noteworthy that the competition was organized in cooperation with the Educational and Scientific Office of the Chinese Embassy.
