Within the framework of the Egyptian state’s efforts to confront corruption and address it in all its forms, Ain Shams University has adopted many positive practices to prevent and combat corruption in line with Egypt’s 2030 vision to combat corruption by setting goals and executive procedures to combat it to enhance the principle of transparency, based on Ain Shams University’s endeavor to increase community awareness of the importance of preventing corruption. Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, opened a symposium entitled “Dangers of Corruption and Mechanisms to Combat it,” which is an awareness initiative for university students, faculty staff, and employees, organized by the Education and Student Affairs Sector and the Students for Egypt Family in cooperation with the University Students Union.
Major General Muhammad Abu Nimah, Head of the Central Administration for National Anti-Corruption Strategic Affairs, lectured at the symposium.
In his speech, Prof. President of Ain Shams University, welcomed His Excellency Major General Mohamed Abu Nemah to Ain Shams University amidst this large student presence, stressing the importance of the symposium’s topic, which is corruption and its danger to society.
His Excellency also pointed out the need for students to add to their experiences a strong mental stock on the dangers of corruption, its impact on society, and anti-corruption mechanisms, because of its great role in building their work and their future.
The President of Ain Shams University pointed out that combating corruption is based on identifying and evaluating the risks of corruption and working to prevent and combat it by setting goals, executive procedures, programs and mechanisms that ensure its containment, activating a societal culture that rejects corruption and raising levels of transparency and integrity. As there are huge entities that have collapsed due to the lack of governance and financial discipline, he hoped that the symposium would enrich the students’ experience in life practices, raise awareness among the students, and stimulate their desire to combat and report any cases of corruption. He stressed the necessity of working together in order to build a better future.
In his speech, Major General Mohamed Abu Nemah expressed his happiness and pride in being at Ain Shams University and his pride in being one of the graduates of the University’s Faculty of Engineering in 1999. He thanked all those attending this great scientific edifice.
His Excellency pointed out that the first article in the National Anti-Corruption Strategy Guide, which was activated in 2014, stipulates that “the state is committed to combating corruption.”
His Excellency stressed that every individual in society is required to combat corruption to protect the capabilities, successes, wealth and resources of the state.
His Excellency explained the concept of combating corruption, which is a behavioral phenomenon that expresses a person’s elevation of bad morals and abandoning suspicions in order to display honesty and good values by activating a system of values that was built within society to preserve state property and eradicate and combat corruption in all its forms.
Pointing out that the state has followed several trends to measure the citizen satisfaction index with the services provided electronically, which number 11 services provided by the state; this is to evaluate citizen opinion in 27 governorates. To determine priorities and concerns, avoid negatives, and provide an opinion survey for service recipients regarding costs, procedures, time, and effort, in addition to the obstacles and challenges they face while benefiting from the service. An indicator has been developed to measure the assessment of corruption among citizens, especially in the youth stage, due to its interaction in society with different sectors.
This is in addition to the existence of mechanisms and programs that are implemented to spread the culture of anti-corruption, including the Governance and Anti-Corruption Course and the implementation of the program to disseminate procedures for the values of integrity and transparency and the Code of Professional Conduct, as the Administrative Control Authority was established to protect public funds and the public job even if it is exposed to infringement by private bodies or citizens.
The symposium discussed an explanation of the website of the National Anti-Corruption Academy at the Administrative Control Authority, which enables the beneficiary to submit a report about any administrative or financial corruption in one of the agencies and indicate the mechanisms for dealing with it and the possibility of benefiting from its services.
The symposium concluded with an open dialogue with the students to answer their questions and discuss their opinions.

The symposium was attended by the head of the central administration of the university president’s office, the University’s Assistant Secretary for Education and Student Affairs, and a group of faculties Deans, Vice deans, faculty staff, and students.
